Rhule might equal Rhebuild

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Growth often has some pain. There's a rebuild no matter what. We may see some favorites go, some unknowns promoted and there's going to be some serious uncertainty right now.

Who will be the coaches under him? Is there a plan for Cam? Can he compete in the fast paced NFC South against Brees and Ryan? Can you inspire and lead millionaire players like you did college students?

He's our guy now, so he's got my support, but it should be an interesting watch.

Really waiting to see how he influences our draft. Should tell a lot about his direction.

Word was Rhule wanted pretty significant control if he was hired. Obviously Tepper agreed to that.

And what's he known for?

Rebuilding bad programs from the ground up.

This definitely isn't a "win now" hire. It looks more like a "strap in for the long haul" type of choice. Tepper had expressed before the process even started that it might take "a period of losing" in order to create a perennial winner. He also acknowledged that it takes college coaches time to adjust to the NFL. Seeing as Rhule was given a seven year contract, it sounds like he's willing to give him significant time.

Basically, if you're expecting a quick turnaround, you might not wanna hold your breath.

The question is how does Rhule build now that it's based on Cap management and a roster size half of that in college rather than recruiting? That has been the issue with College head coaches previously and it isn't likely to change.

Personally, I'd like to see us tank for Lawrence or Fields. I love Cam and perhaps he comes back reinvented and healthy after a year off, but maybe he doesn't? Teams with quarterbacks on Rookie Deals are all the rage right now and will likely be in the best position for a Super Bowl run from here on out due to the minuscule salary hit. The Titans have Mariota on his Rookie Deal and Ryan Tannehill on the cheapo, the Texans still have Watson on a Rookie Deal, the Ravens have Lamar Jackson on a Rookie Deal, and the Chiefs have Mahomes on a Rookie Deal.

50% of teams in the playoffs have a QB on a rookie deal and the favorite to win it has a 2nd year QB. The Rams were in a similar position when Goff was still on his Rookie Deal. However, he signed his new contract extension, the Rams blew assets in the Draft and spent money in Free Agency, now they are staring at losing seasons for the next 2 years.

Suck this year for a Top 3 pick in 2021.

@Mr. Scot can you read? Rhule's preference for a team that already has a QB is telling about how he feels about a rebuild .. if you want to go to a team that already has a QB that's saying you want to win now

I agree with you but this team still has holes at key positions for Cam or any Qb to succeed

You're aware that a roster has 53 players, right? That, plus ours isn't very good right now.

This thread isn't about Newton. It's about the team in general.

49ers were 4-12 last season .. and a healthy Cam is better than Jimmy G. so even if the supporting cast here isnt as good as in SF - we have a better QB to make up for that ..

We will be contenders next season.

Also preference and requirement are two different things.

You just look for all the reasons why Cam could be gone instead of all the reasons he will stay .. it's going to make you mad when Cam's next nine years make his first nine look bad

So I'm the opposite of you. I honestly could care less if Cam stays or goes.  But I dont need to hold onto every word wanting it.

Cam is 2 seasons removed from playing a healthy season on the last year of a contract.

If you honestly think we go into next season without a viable starting backup QB you are in a world of shock.

Matt Rhule hire loudly shouts that we aren't ready to move on from Cam Newton

No it doesnt. Sheesh. Rhule is the key to a complete rebuild. from top to bottom. If the team wasnt moving on from Cam where is his extension?
