We're talking about professionals with their careers and millions of dollars on the line.

Teams don't "tank", they just suck.

I do think the Dolphins tried it this past year.  At least the front office did.  And they certainly started out the season looking like the worst team in the NFL, although they ended up not so bad.  The story was that they wanted Tua, but even with their possible intentional tanking and Tua's injury, they are unlikely to get their qb target.  Unless they are willing to give up some of those valuable draft picks to move up.  Just goes to show how hard it is to intentionally tank in the NFL.  If that is what the Dolphins did.

If we are going full Tank mode.. Which 1st moves is letting Cam go (he ain't tanking).. Getting rid of older players with big contracts now and take the hit now...... But Jmo you still need to start and rebuild some parts of this team by signing some younger cheaper options in FA.. And concentrated on 1 side of the ball... Either go ahead and try to get the defense straight now.. Or get the offense ready for Lawrence to step in and go... What would you do this offseason??

Tank mode is a fan construct most of the time...like this one

New coaches are especially not going to be down with the "let's suck your first year in the NFL!" plan. Ridiculous...

The Dolphins were still bad. The win over a sinking NE (lost first game in playoffs) made them look good but 3 of their wins were against Cincy, NYJ and Indy after Brissett was hurt. That said, they’ve got 5 first round picks and 4 second round picks this year and next. If the Browns the picks, they’ll keep sucking but they’ve got the ammo to rebuild.

They’ll likely end up with Tua and an OT and maybe a top DT. Also, look at all the successful, let’s call them rebuilds. The QBs were equivalent to Grier. The Dolphins had Fitzpatrick who’s always been mediocre but can shine at times. I guarantee you that if we rebuild with Grier starting, we won’t go 5-11.

Its no guarantee they get Tua, and if they do, they may end up having to give up some of those draft picks to get him.  And he may end up not being that good anyway.  The point is though that they seemed to be going out of their way to be bad and get a #1 pick, or at very least a top 2 or 3.  And it didn't really work out for them.  They are the only team I can think of that went out of their way to be intentionally bad, and at least at this point, it doesn't seem that it worked out as well as they might hope.

If Cam isn't here, Allen will be starting over Grier.

Of course there's no guarantee of anything, hence "likely to get Tua" since Burrow and Young likely go 1/2 and 3/4 don't appear to be looking for QBs. If we got into analysis paralysis about every scenario that isn't guaranteed, there'd be no reason to discuss anything. Again, the Dolphins got what they wanted, a top 5 pick and 5 first round picks and 4 2nd round picks the next two years. Sure, they had a really easy schedule so they didn't finish 0-16 but I wouldn't mind the draft capital they've got.

Also, just in case you didn't realize, Allen is not a Carolina Panther right now. Other teams have tendered their EFRAs. We haven't tendered Allen yet. Since the contract is pretty much fixed and a minimum deal, why haven't they tendered him already if he was in any type of plan? I'd say that either Cam is staying and Grier is the backup or they actually are looking to maximize their pick and start Grier or they plan to take a QB this year and Grier is the backup. I wouldn't count on Allen ever starting for us again at this point.

Assuming Tepper was going into the season intent on "tanking" -- what would his goal/s be?

Lose every single game?

There are some really really lousy franchises out there...Bengals, Redskins, Browns, Jets, Giants, Dolphins, Lions, Cardinals, Buccaneers...

...what are the odds of the Panthers being the absolute worst team out of the entire lot?

Is that really an achievable goal?
