XFL QB PJ Walker

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Jason LaCanfora reported that XFL players can be signed by NFL teams immediately. Thus, there's already word that several teams are looking at standout quarterback PJ Walker.

To date though, the Panthers are not one of them. Among the teams who have are the Broncos, Seahawks and Cardinals.

Walker has a Panthers connection though, having played for Coach Matt Rhule at Temple.

Will we express interest? Unknown. If we do, it might conceivably affect the status of Kyle Allen (not guaranteed, though).

I didn't watch enough XFL to see much of Walker, so opinions are welcome from anyone who did.

The XFL has informed its players that they're free to sign with NFL or CFL teams on March 23 upon execution of an XFL Notice of Contract Termination.

The XFL also officially announced they're cancelling the remainder of the 2020 season. It's likely that at least a handful of players are signed to rosters around the league, as was the case after the AAF folded in 2019. Still, the majority of players failed to catch on for longer than a training camp and preseason stint, something that could again be an issue in 2020.

Man, the timing really sucked for them, didn't it?

No kidding. All things considered, it was a fairly entertaining league. My expectations were very low but it was still a decent surprise. I liked hearing the refs talk things through together and the commentary was definitely on par.

I actually hope they recover. Nice to have some kind of football in the offseason. But this is a rough blow for them.

    • In terms of enthusiasm at this exact juncture it's a 5 only because regular season football is back and we are 0-0 and there is the development of some key young players that I am very interested in seeing in regular season action. That brief high will probably be knocked down to 1 by October though.
    • I think the preseason performance has caused a "Meh" Cloud  to hover over the fan base.  I still have some interest and while I don't expect a lot of wins, I think there are other things I would like to see in terms of the team at least going in the right direction. On offense is Bryce the guy and is XL moving forward? Is the defense performing better with DB back Are the rookies and 2nd year players developing? That said, for me there is some intrigue but I don't think they will compete for a playoff spot.
    • Well just a few years ago they went to the playoffs and won a playoff game with Daniel Jones at QB. And while the Giants have been up and down at best since their last Super Bowl they have shown to be a more competent organization. While the Panthers haven't so much as sniffed the playoffs in nearly a decade. Logic would dictate that the Giants strategy has a high probability to be at least modestly successful. The Panthers? Eh.
