What teams have been rewarded for tanking?

Us, in 2011.

Pretty much the same can be said for every team that's hit a home run on a top pick after a year of losing big.

The objective reality is that there is greater benefit in losing big time as opposed to being mediocre.

Mind you, that doesn't mean that I hope for losing. I could never do that.

But I acknowledge the truth.

Yeah, but Tepper sent a letter out to the PSL’s this year saying it’s going to take sometime to be competitive again. So.....

which is pretty obviously true in a rebuilding situation whether you are tanking or not, so I'm not sure why you think this supports the notion they are tanking. Salary cap considerations often make rebuilding a multiyear process as well as the fact that the NFL is not setup to restock a roster short on talent in a single offseason.

Please name for me all the NFL teams that were rewarded for tanking by drawing a direct line between the time they tanked and the Super Bowl victory found in their immediate future.

Cleveland has been tanking for 20 years.  Nice to see they were rewarded for it with all those SB wins, playoff appearances, etc...

Fwiw, if you look at the list of top qb's in the nfl last year, very few of them were drafted in the top five.  Wentz and Stafford are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.  And I am not really sure that either of them would qualify as elite at this point.  Getting an elite qb seems to be more based on luck and seeing something that others don't as opposed to tanking or getting a top pick.

Trevor Lawrence looks great in college when he is on a team that has more talent than almost anyone they play.  But his odds of being an elite qb in the NFL are about 1 in 5 imo.

I have some thoughts about this that are more involved but in order to get where I need to be for the game I need to be walking out the door right now. Suffice to say I agree with you. Russell Wilson is a prime example, lasting to the third round, where the Seahawks can legitimately say they saw something in him that others didn't. But they didn't see it as a sure thing or they would have drafted him higher, so even that suggests an element of luck.

The Browns haven't been tanking.

They're just legitimately terrible.

And to be clear, I don't believe deliberate tanking really happens. Just like the Browns, teams lose because they're terrible.

The difference is some of them are only terrible temporarily. Others make it a way of life.
