Marty Hurney would have drafted Herbert

Joe is a good qb so it has sort of came out of nowhere that he would be out of a job in a couple years.

That’s what I would do.

I’ve always thought he was overrated. Most QBs that get drafted are out of a job in a few years. Look around the league. The Bengals are going to give him every chance to succeed because they drafted him #1 overall so he’ll probably stick around for a while but they aren’t any better off from when they had Dalton. He’s Nick Foles to me.

Some people do overrate him based on his college stats but he translates to the nfl well. Great intangibles too. I think he’s gonna be a really good player. I know it’s the Browns but that was a glimpse to the future imo. He needs a better line though.

Can’t have him throwing the ball 60 times. I think he can be a high level game manger, but he’s not going to carry any teams. Needs a lot of weapons around him and a solid line. Otherwise he’ll flame out trying to make him Mahomes.

Every QB needs weapons and an offensive line, even Mahomes. I didn’t realize you were a Clemson fan. I see why you don’t lie him now.

    • So we cut him if we don't give him the option?  I'm pretty sure there are players who didn't get the 5th-year option that played year four of their rookie contracts with their draft team.
    • I didn't say do nothing if we don't draft one in the 1st and I"m not counting on a FA to magically become a franchise QB. But signing a FA to be our starter for the year and then re-address the next offseason would be FAR better than reaching on the wrong QB in the 1st this offseason. Feeling we HAVE to find our long term solution just because we need a new QB is how we got into this mess.  We thought Two Gloves would be at worst an average level QB for a few years, that didn't happen, so we went out and traded for Darnold.  That didn't work so we went out and traded for Baker, that didn't work so we went out and traded up to get Bryce. Our last 4 QB moves were all trying to force a solution, none of them worked out, and we're still trying to find Cam's replacement all these years later.  We'd just have been better off spending a year or two building up the rest of the team and going year to year on FA QB's while doing so.  I get it, it will be frustrating to deal with, but then when you find that actual long term solution, they plug right into an already built out roster and you're ready to contend immediately.
    • Great win, should be 3-0 but I'll take 2-1. LaMelo is an MVP caliber player, period.   This is looking like an incredible draft so far. Sion James looking like the exact type of role player that all contending teams need to have, absolute steal in the 2nd. Kalk is a work in progress and I question how much upside he has but he's already been a considerable upgrade at C for us compared to the last several years (outside of healthy Mark which of course was rare).   Really seems like new ownership/front office has change the culture here significantly. Every guy looks bought in now.
