Wouldn't read too much stock into that connection but Rhule was a graduate assistant (more like peers) and that was 20 years ago. Plus reading into Tepper's structure here is that Rhule and whoever the GM winds up being will be more like peers than the GM being the "boss" of the HC.

A graduate assistant wouldn't necessarily be all that much older than the players on the team.

Kevin Colbert. The report from a week ago that he was on the outs in Pittsburgh wasn't a coincidence. Tepper and Colbert already know this is happening. Probably gonna be the highest paid GM in the league by far.

This ain't really my thing, but as a casual observer of GMs, Colbert would be my pick!

Hard to argue with more Super Bowl wins than losing seasons since he joined the team about 20 years ago...

I can't celebrate someone losing their job, but I'm not gonna cry about it either. It was justified.

Oh, no, that's not what I meant. No need to celebrate a good guy that couldn't meet the stamdards of the job being fired. But being that he has been axed, you can feel free and happy to do your thing! We've come to expect it.

Person: Tepper, a big proponent of analytics, will be looking for a forward-thinking GM who can align with Rhule, who will have a major hand in picking Hurney’s successor. Several NFL insiders believe this will be Rhule’s hire. With the changes/incentives added to the Rooney Rule, the Panthers and other teams with head coach and GM vacancies will interview minority candidates from a pool that includes Jerry Reese, Martin Mayhew and Rick Smith.  One internal candidate they could consider is salary cap manager Samir Suleiman, who came to Carolina from Pittsburgh, where Tepper was a part-owner.
