This is why I try to be careful about looking at drafts though. The guys in the room are part of the process, but they're not the ones making the final choices.

how much blame they deserve for mistakes, and also how much credit they deserve for successes, is something you have to temper.

That is true.

It's fun to speculate but, well, we will see eventually if he can bring success to the team.

7 out the last 8 years, they spent at least one pick at RB(mainly late rounders). Two years they spent at least 2 picks on RB in the same draft. 

That could also be because that's been kind of a weak spot for them for a few years.

You mention Carson, hes a Derrick Henry type. Seen him bully defenders on the reg, just health is a issue... like for most RBs. They also had around 10+ picks in most drafts too. I prefer 3 cheap players with 4 years of control. 3 mill in cap space for three players, rather than one 16 million at a weak spot.

Since all indications are we're going to be continuing to run Joe Brady's WCO based system, a big back wouldn't be a bad thing to have.

Some of the more effective West Coast attacks have had one speedy back who's a good receiver (like McCaffrey) and one bruiser for short yardage / goal line situations.

A little more from David Newton...

So apparently, we have two people to thank for Scott Fitterer getting an interview. One of them is Jim Nagy who made a call to someone in the Panthers front office to suggest it. The other is, surprisingly, the guy he called.

Pat Stewart.

Why is that surprising? Because Stewart was a candidate for the job himself. In suggesting another interview, Stewart was potentially doing damage to his own chances.

But he did it anyway...

The Panthers were double-digit interviews into their general manager search when Nagy reached out to good friend Patrick Stewart, Carolina’s director of player personnel, and suggested Fitterer.

A virtual interview was conducted two Sundays ago, followed by an in-person interview three days later. Fitterer was hired the next day.

“I told Pat, ‘Fit’s a great guy. I’m sure you don’t know him well, but he’ll be a great fit,’" Nagy said. “That’s a great group moving forward on the football side.’’

Scott Fitterer has the risk taking mentality needed to improve the Panthers

There's more than one round in the draft and no rule stating trades are limited to within a round. The best case scenario is for the Panthers to be at the end of the first and the WFT trading up from the beginning of the first.

      You making fun of or not realizing how important that actually is leads me to believe you don’t have either of those assets and are subconsciously upset about it, or you’ve never been in a position to be a leader and thus you don’t value good leadership which Bryce oozes with.

      I said this last night to family. You can look at Bryce as not a “strong and physical” presence and that’s not going to change on you can look at it, that this guy has the type of skillset that sets him up to only get better for the next 5-7 years every year. He’s not going to know less about the game next year than this year. His timing will be better, his pocket presence better (even though the guy works around a pocket amazingly in my opinion), everything is just going to improve every year and I believed he’s already proved the doubters wrong other than nut huggers on here who just want a big strong man to drool over.

      Are the Panthers a "Trap Game" for the Hawks?

      The Seahawks won an emotional, divisional, overtime rivalry game vs the Rams on a Thursday night (Dec 18).  That gives them 10 days to prepare for the Panthers, but the Christmas holiday fell a week later--I bet they were afforded an extra day for travel-many coming back east.  Following the Panthers, Seattle plays at San Francisco for the division title (in all probability).   The Rams finish the season with games against the Falcons and Cardinals, two likely wins, pushing them to 13-4.  The Niners finish the season with home games against the Bears and Seahawks. Seattle finishes the season with the Panthers on the road and SF in California.   It is easy to see how preparing for the Panthers, during the holiday break and with the Niners waiting for them in SF a week later for (what could be) the NFC West title and #1 Seed in the NFC, could create the perfect trap game scenario.  The Panthers at home are 5-2.   In the past 2 weeks, the Seahawks struggled to beat the Phillip Rivers Colts in Seattle and then pulled off a miraculous, emotional victory at home vs. the Rams.  I am not convinced that they are as good as advertised. Seattle is a TD favorite in Charlotte.  I feel that Carolina by 3 may be more accurate.  While I am still not confident in this team's consistency and it never seems to dominate, it sure feels like a trap game for Seattle to me.  How could they NOT be thinking of San Francisco right now?  They are not used to being in this position (current players) and it is human nature.  Carolina 27, Seattle 24.
