Every year at this time people on the Huddle start bombarding me with requests for my prediction of the 53-man roster.  Every year, I have been right a percentage of the time.  So this year, once again, I present to you my
"first annual roster prediction before camp starts":

The offense

WR:  A bit of a lock, I was hoping to find a spot for Omar Bayless, but Zylstra is a favorite of ST coach Blackburn and he is a solid possession WR.  Man, this is a solid group, so I have 6 on the active roster.

OL:  So much depends on who wins the LT job.  Every position is up in the air, with the exception of maybe C and LT.  I like Scott behind Erving and I cut Little.  Christensen is going to start the season behind Moton for obvious reasons.  Moore from Grambling is the new backup C, grooming him to take Paradis' job soon.  Miller is underrated to most fans.  At LG, I think Daley wins the job, but he will compete at LT for a while, so Elf's experience gives him a shot.  In this wide zone scheme, he should be pretty good.

TE:  Tremble could be on the field a lot as the #2 TE.  Thomas?  Gotta play the game to avoid the shame. Darnold to Arnold for 600 yards is something you will see in 2021.

RB: Good group, great for the wide zone scheme.   Hubbard slides in behind CMC and Reggie takes some snaps at QB on Wednesdays.  Cannon and Smith to the PS.  FB:  I kept the bruiser, but if Tremble can play it...

QB:  After Darnold, yikes. 

The Defense

LDE:  I think Haynes is a fine backup for Burns.

RDE: YGM and Fox make that spot secure.

SAM: Reddick and Miller behind him.

WLB: We are a bit thin at LB, which makes Miller so valuable.  He can play anywhere.  Thompson and Luvu?  Luvu seems to be a special teams ace, so he finds a roster spot but sees little action that is not special.

MLB:  Paddy to PS, Perryman and Carter.  I put Carter behind Perryman due to Denzel's injury concerns--and he can play the position.

DT:  Basically, we have 4 DTs that can play N-3T, and some can play the 5T.  I put Panasiuck on the PS, but he could be a stud.  Mark my wirds.

CB:  Horn and Jackson to start, with Melvin and Bouye at nickel.  Looks like we are going to play some man coverage--Horn and Taylor at the other CB, with Pride as well?  Sick.

FS:  Now that we can call Chinn a FS, it makes it easier if it makes no sense until I see it.  SS?  Sure.  FS?  Are we taking him out of the mix a bit?  OK, I will bite.  Chinn at FS with Delano Hill (another sleeper I like) behind him.  Robinson is in the mix as well, but I have him at SS to have a better chance at PT.

SS:  Burris, Franklin, Robinson...I am not 100% sold, but they seem to like Burris, fwiw--maybe with better CB play, he can do what he does more effectively.

Possibly pick up a free agent at FS if we don't go an additional LB. 

I struggled with this issue.  I think his value is the TE/FB role--like ND used him...A roster spot is worth something.

Not much to disagree with- I have the same OL, WR, TE, ST, and DL. The others fall to where I disagree with who the last player is- example at RB I have Cannon over BonBon. (nitpicking) No FB......plus honestly QB is a mess after gringer cringer. I just really soured on both Walker or Grier this off-season. I have seen enough and neither are the future or worth a panther spot. Backup needs to be address now(via trade or claim) and near the very top the coming off-season.

 

I have learned over and over, do NOT discount ST aces. I have Julian Stanford over my 2019 under-dawg favorite CMiller. I also have Myles Hartsfield making the team and feel thats your biggest mistake here. Hill is off the team to make move, Hart started some to end the season, reason for Corn benching. Hes a top athlete and can play about anywhere in the back 7. I maybe alone but my main worries are with LB, not Safety. Clay Johnson could make the team, need SOMEONE to step up and he knows the brain waves Rhule likes. It has to help some, that his dad works for panthers and a former strength coach(I think Green bay). 

I love the PS guesses, I feel this year it will be a strength. The big deal is injuries.....Panthers have sooooooo many players with past injury history. That will for sure completely ruin most roster predictions this year. I also think panthers will claim 2-3 players during cuts. My guess is they will come form these groups- LB, OL, QB(maybe TE/FS). Overall I am happy with the "rebuild" at this year 2 point, I look forward to becoming a "sunshine" gang member in 2022 when I post playoff after playoff thread/post.

I think linebacker will be fine if we add a safety... Im not worried about Perryman and Carter when it comes to rush defense, just coverage. If we add a above average FS we will have one of the best secondary's in the league and Perryman/Carter can focus on the run where they are fantastic. Also, Shaq is def an above average coverage LB.

      This is spot on, with the first 5 years of a QBs contract being so pivotal, as it should, unless you have Pat Mahomes or the reincarnation of Tom Brady, stats shows once the qb gets paid, the teams Super Bowl chances shrink significantly  what we did to get Bryce was idiotic to say the least, not because of the player(not a Bryce endorsement) but because there’s a long history of proof, making big swings at qb, are usually big misses  find the identify, build around that, and go from there. Unfortunately we don’t have one, and neither the defense nor offense side of the ball are more than good at best

      Seems like a loaded EDGE class. though I think we don't spend a premium pick there with Scourton/Princely showing production and potential.  Concepcion at 19 is intriguing and seen ARSB comps with his shiftiness, high IQ and YAC ability. He and TMac would be a nasty 1-2 combo at stretching a defense. Brenan Thompson could be that day 2 speedy/slot guy that could boost his draft stock in Mobile.  Sam Hecht could be a later selection for C depending on how we are planning to attack that position in FA and our own previous guys. Shelton from PSU is an interesting developmental tackle that if he can get locked into an NFL strength program and rock up, could be good down the road. Speaking of PSU, Dani Dennis Sutton was a guy last year I was big on and was bummed he headed back to Happy Valley. I think he can be a helluva NFL player, and if he can show improvement in his pass rush moves, I wouldn't be mad at him in a trade-back situation.
