and now its official:

Dougie gone. I know everyone wanted the Canes to re-sign him, but at $9 Mil AAV....no thanks. There's no way in hell he should be the highest paid player on the team. When Dougie is on, he's great, but there are way too many lapses for him to make 9 Mil a year.

Honestly, I'd rather have a defenseman that scares people than one who scores occassionally. Resign Hakanpaa.

I can only hope that the bridge deal gets done with Svech and that we may also get either Saad or Tarasenko in a fair trade.

Saad is a free agent so his only cost would be the contract he signs.

I like the idea of Tarasenko because the dude is a lethal sniper who can put points on the board.  I just don't want to give up much to the Blues because his cap hit is $7M.  If the Blues retain salary and we can make a good trade I think he may come in and really be motivated to stick it to the league and the Blues.

Post Season Points. As an "Offensive" Defensemen...2 goals in 11 games doesn't scream 9 Mil AAV to me. His +/- was great, but at the end of the day...gotta put pucks in net when the seasons on the line.

EDIT: I'd much rather take that money and give it to a pure goal scorer.

His +/- can be attributed to Slavin...at least half of it.  He looked lost at times when Slavin didn't play in the Nashville series.

For all that has been said about Dougie not enjoying being criticized in big hockey markets and really feeling at home in Carolina money ruled the day and he moved to a team that is covered by the NY media.  Good luck Dougie...I hope NJ had a solid defenseman that will cover your ass when you make a boneheaded play.

    • So what are "the people" paying for when they give money to a rich dude for a sports ball situation?  The brand and prestige of a sports ball team.  It's the hallmark of a big city to be able to do that.  There is a pretty terrible ROI on public dollars into private enterprise, period.  But governments continue to do it for the image associated with it. Since I live outside of CharMeck, it doesn't affect me much.  I love my Panthers.  They have been part of my life since they announced the team in the early 90s.  My parent's names are on one of those Panther statues.  Some of my best memories with my family and friends come from that stadium.  But on the flip side, could CMS use the $650 million?  What about public housing?  Streets?  Parks & Rec?  There are a lot of other places that $650 million could go. But in our modern society, I bet that after much hemming and hawing, the money will come.  Areas of the budget will suffer.  Some taxes will increase, but that's how things work in our society.  Charlotte is not willing to lose the Panthers.
