Does Gonzalez get to stay?

Having said that, in theory the idea of trying to kick near the goal line and rely on your coverage could be a good one. Your coverage team starts off further down field than it used to and you only have to prevent them gaining back to the 25 to have made a positive result.

I'm not sure, however, that our coverage team at this point is good enough to make that a wise tactical decision.

There's a reason for this obviously. Maybe you forgot but they moved the kickoff line up 5 yards in 2011. This allowed for most kickers that could kick within the end zone to then be able to kick through the end zone with regularity.

It was at the same time that they moved the touchback up to the 25 from the 20.

The year after the rule change the touchback percentage increased from 16% to 44%.

I'm not sure what it has been since but I'm too lazy to look it up.

Yeah, I realize that, and yet somehow Panthers managed to sign a guy that still can't manage to kick the ball beyond the back of the end zone (and bonus, misses pats too).

Our kicking game seems to be stuck in reverse.
