Team Germany Update

Germany beats the Czech’s 2-1 to get their first win.

Bugl was in for Quapp and he had a damn good game, we might not see Quapp again this tournament.

Nikita Quapp (Germany - G): 1 GP - 3.00 gaa, .864 sv%

Thanks for keeping up the play by play! Due to the holidays and what not I’ve only been able to keep up with the recaps so far. The wealth of depth/trade value we’ve built is gonna be amazing for years to come.

Team Sweden Update

Sweden defeated Slovakia 3-0 yesterday to improve to 2-0 in the tournament.

While Nybeck still hasn’t found his game yet, Nystrom has become a little more active. He had a nice hit early in the game which unfortunately was incorrectly whistled for tripping. He’s already getting the shaft so he should fit in well with the Canes. Nystrom also had a nice assist off the boards to Sjoberg who finished off the breakaway.

Joel Nyström (Sweden - RD) 2 GP - 0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point, +2

Zion Nybeck (Sweden - RW) 2 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, -1

Tripping or Clean Hit?

Nystrom Assist

Team Canada Update

Canada throttled Austria 11-2 to move to 2-0. Nearly everyone on Team Canada had a point and Seeley was no exception. He picked up a secondary and primary assist while playing on the first paring with Buffalo prospect, Owen Power. What makes this impressive is that Seeley was a seventh round draft pick.

Ronan Seeley (Canada - LD) 2 GP - 0 goals, 2 assists, 2 points, +2

Highlights Below

And just like that the World Juniors have been cancelled after the Czech’s and Russians had to forfeit their games due to covid.

Oh well…

Ya I knew that was coming since yesterday.  Or when ever the US had to forfeit. Glad we got to see some though as the fans. But I wish they would have pushed the tourney a few months.

  • 1 year later...

Haven’t gotten to update this thread in a while because there hasn’t been much to talk about on the prospect front, but it looks like Ville Koivunen is on his way to North America.

Koivunen had 12 goals, 16 assists, and 28 points in 52 games for Karpat in the Finnish elite league, he was also a +9. Koivunen also had 1 assist in 3 playoff games.

Ville Koivunen is young and has talent. Here's wishing him all the luck in the world.

    • We both know there's more that goes into batted passes than just the height of the QB. Most people here have readily acknowledged this and there were numerous discussions about it before we drafted Young. But if you are presenting a POV that Bryce's height hasn't tied to issues with his footwork then there's nothing anyone is going to be able to say to sway you and you know this. Even beyond the footwork I recall a redzone play where Bryce couldn't see around his right tackle at all where a receiver was waiting practically alone in the end zone for a touchdown. There are real world circumstances that are going to show up over the course of the upcoming season and it's up to Bryce and Dave Canales to make adjustments and do anything they can to mitigate negative instances and yes that begins with Bryce's footwork again. Thanks for your time. Have a nice weekend.
    • I'm arguing that should those supposed deficiencies, like height or pocket footwork, be as consequential as you and others have claimed, then there would be a clear, observable impact in the data. That's not unreasonable. For example, batted passes are often used as a size-related concern (see: Baker Mayfield), yet Bryce ranked among the lowest in deflections at the line. If his stature is such a limitation, why isn't it showing up there? Or are you suggesting that's why his passing yards fall short of your expectations? If the latter, I would hope that you're not discounting yards left on the field due to drops (of which he led the league in).  Also, asking for specific, measurable benchmarks isn't aggression... it's accountability. If that feels uncomfortable, it might be worth reflecting on how much of your anti-Bryce argument is grounded in subjective perception rather than objective metrics. So, again: do you have any specific KPIs beyond total passing yardage, height, and weight that you consider relevant to evaluating whether a QB is top-10? If you want to add YPA and passing yards per game to those metrics, that's fair, just be clear about it. But let's not pretend that asking for clarity is some kind of provocation. I'm simply trying to understand the actual criteria... not just the vibes.
    • Jackson actually played quite well for a #2 CB #54 in PFF coverage ratings 12 pass break ups solid in run defense..... Hes gonna be targeted just because Jacyee IS being avoided.
