I don't like the idea of combining HC and GM....but..

For the first time, I have this sneaky suspicion that Cowher will be doing both jobs here next season.

I for one, am not a huge fan of his, and this is totally a gut feeling type thing, but I just don't see Hurney/Fox being kept around. In hiring a big 3 coach, you will automatically "charge" the fan base, and get more fans in the seats....at least for one year.

I much rather Fox to stay then Cowher to come here. That shows you how much I dislike him. He gets way too much cred for a job description worse then Foxes. Yea one SB in 10 years is such a good thing when you also have one of the best DCs if not the best in the game. Really he is just Fox with a SB. How many years did he sick with Tommy Maddux?

9 division titles

8 years in the playoffs with a 21-12 record

9 seasons with at least 10 wins

11 seasons over .500

Only 3 seasons below .500 and 1 at .500

2 Super Bowls and a Super Bowl win

How is that even remotely close to Fox?

Name a "total control" guy that's taken a team to the Super Bowl lately.

The model just doesn't work in today's NFL. More to the point, Jerry Richardson is said to strongly dislike the management model of one person having all the keys.

Even if we get Cowher (and I'm not buying that we do, or even should) I don't see him getting full control.

Don't quote me on this but I believe Cowher said he wouldn't want to take a GM position. He wants to coach.

I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, I think Cowher may want to do both & that is a big risk we shouldn't go with. Plus, he may get paid way too much that we may not be able to afford some good players in the Draft or FA.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
