ha!

Ive been cheesing a rune farm (shooting the giant crow across the ravine) so im up to lvl 147 now.

Now with a vigor of 65 I finally feel like I can go into boss battle on my own and have a chance. I'm playing a samurai melee build, but I need all the health I can get!

Yes, vigor!  I dropped points to get to 60. It helped tremendously. I’m in a similar build. I use a katana sometimes or a great sword. Not really using magic or faith.

I killed the tree sentinel tonight and the boss after him (black maliketh or w/e). For the sentinel, I 1/2 cheesed him. I almost beat him straight up, so this time I rot arrow him till about 1/2 hp.  Then I closed in and sealed the deal.  Sad because I found the boss easier than this guy.

It's just that people find enjoyment in different ways. I'm a father of two and work around 60hrs a week. This game is relaxing to me. If I really struggle with piece of the content I just go do something else in the game and come back to it. But even so, the challenge doesn't bother me, I find some sort of peace in the process but I get that it's not like that for everyone.

You sound similar to me. Have you ever played “Dofus”?  It’s a slow paced MMO game that has turn based combat. I always found it so enjoyable given my schedule. They recently released “Dofus Retro” which is based on their first version and has that nostalgia appeal for me. Retro is much simpler (and more enjoyable IMO) than their current version.

Just finished last night! What a fantastic game. I don’t know where it ranks all time for me but it’s the first in many years that I’ve loved this much and it’s definitely high up on my list. For reference, I’d gone in beating DS1, playing bloodborne and sekiro but never finishing them. I got pretty far in sekiro but I played that immediately after beating DS1 and I needed a break and simply never picked it back up. I think I’ll give bloodborne another try now (it was my first Fromsoft game and I didn’t understand how the games worked at the time.)

I kept track of my time and deaths during boss fights throughout my Elden Rings run. It took me 95 hours to beat and I was level 152 when I faced the last boss. All in all, I spent 1369 minutes (22.8 hours) and died 600 times on boss fights lol.

I’m not going to do a second play through just yet but I would like to eventually. Again, had a blast playing it!

Thats great. Its fun to find a game that is built well and enjoyable. So many games now come out half finished (I was a sucker that prebought Battlefield 2044 and Cyberpunk before that). Its a pleasure when you can just sit down and play an game and it works 'out of the box'

That seems like a crazy amount of vigor, I did have 40 in a pure melee build, but i respec'd for the godslayer greatsword and now I only have 30 vigor.

Im level 84 and I am at the point where i need to finish the royal capitol, but I have been playing around doing other stuff.

It was a lot, but I am not the best dodge-roller/timing player, so I tend to eat some poo.  The rolling chariots in the dungeons?  You can actually tank a hit with 60 vigor ha.

I may respec at some point, but the build seems to be working for me at the moment.

What stats are you sacrificing to get vigor that high? It might be fun to just 2h a colossal weapon with tons of vigor.

Agreed. I was also one of the guys who preordered both of those games...

So one thing I learned and didn't realize is that the stats are soft capped.  So once I realized that, I kind of sought out best "value" in leveling.  Bang-for-the-buck.

I'm using the bloodhound curved great sword which scales on str and dex.  Sometimes I use a cold katana which scales the same I believe (mostly dex?).  I also use a great shield - the golden one that drops from banished knights I believe (the highest guard value I have found to date).

Off the top of my head, I'm somewhere like:

60 vigor

50 endurance

~35-40 strength (can't recall exactly)

~35-40 dexterity (can't recall exactly)

~15 faith (for erdtree bow mainly)

Base int

Base Arcane

Base mind

I use the mimic as my "ash", so I don't need a lot of FP.

I may one day respec to an arcane/X or faith/X weapon.  I have switched once or twice, but I keep going back to the good old bloodhound sword.  It slaps.  It bleeds.  It has a wide arc for mob control.  Dunno, just works for me.  I have a bunch of larva still, but I think I will just finish the game and do a NG+.  Then see where it takes me.

I have been taking it very slow and just got my first larva the other day.  Was wondering how rare they were so good to hear they aren’t too scarce

I used the Bloodhound sword in the early game, I liked the bleed effect it has on it. I also use the mimic tear ash when possible. I havent used a shield in awhile, I was mostly 2h against bosses since shields are pretty useless against them.

Right now I am using god slayers great sword main hand with god slayers seal offhand. The only spell i really use is black flame.

Bloodhound Sword is OP but not a great bleed weapon relative to other weapons.  Too slow to proc the bleed very often.  Its damage and stagger are very good so it probably doesn’t matter.

Most of these weapons are all great in the right situation.  The Uchi katana is extremely versatile and one of the best weapons available.  It can probably take you through the game.

Bleed in general is way OP so I definitely expect a nerf in the future…cough Rivers of Blood

The Reduvia is absolutely crazy.  Anything not resistant to bleed is toast with that weapon.  Also, Scarlet Rot is a death sentence for anything weak to it.
