Sam Howell

Recommended Posts

I know many of you have Sam Howell lower on your draft boards and I personally think it's a mistake.

In 2020 when Carolina had great weapons and a porous defense Sam continually kept them in the game.

We all know he has the arm to play in the NFL and IMO all the other tools to do well.  Many want to put 2021 as gauge on Sam.  If you had switched 2020 and 2021 season Sam would clearly be the best QB in this draft.   I don't think his skills diminished or were a flash in the pan.  He just didn't have the supporting cast he had in 2020. I am a Tarheel football fan along with ECU. (student there many moons ago) UNC is not a powerhouse football program. UNC cannot replace NFL level talent like the Ohio States and Alabamas can. What Sam had in 2020 cannot be replaced and it showed.  You can't blame Sam for the lack of talent around him.

Assuming we fix our line.  Sam would have the weapons here.  We have quality Wideouts and depending on CMCs health a good to great running game.

Many dislike him and that's your opinion but IMO we will regret passing on him.   I believe he is going to have a long career in the NFL.

He'll be long gone by then.

What's your analytical reason why you don't want him.

I have anything at all against Howell.  I would much rather they take a shot at him than gut the team for Watson.

Having said that I have not watched more than 2 quarters of his game.  From what I saw he will struggle at this level if he doesn't get a great qb coach.

All of the QB's in this class are in the same boat. None should be expected to start next season.  If your team does then may God have mercy on their careers.

I hope he finds a much better landing spot than this fuging dumpster fire.

I remember watching Drew Brees at Purdue and really wanted him and ever more pissed off when New Orleans signed him.  Anyhow, Brees looked amazing even back then.

When I watch Sam last year I was impressed the same way.  Not to say Howell will be a HOFer but I got the same gut feeling when I saw Brees.

I didn't mention the combine but Sam had one of the better performances.

I'll be a closet fan of the team that chooses him unless of course he's in the NFCS.

    • I mean, you see the games on the first page right? 167, 235, 171, 121, 103 etc etc. Am I a tad small? I guess if we are needing perfection, but hey this is a BY thread....... Id say in the majority he does have around 100 yards for 55 minutes, does that help? Just like the numbers they reflect hes playd very poor in nearly 85% of those game leading into the final minutes. I will also give this, he could had more GWDs if not for the defense choking.  I feel this is sooooo very clear to people that watch the games. Even the pure only 100% BY fans or his relatives should be able to see this as well.

    • you always push in to the weird position of defending people I dont really like, but you don’t know any employee is a bad fit until it plays out. A lot of folks here were excited when Rhule was hired. He’s clearly good at selling himself, he keeps landing head‑coaching jobs. We also don’t know that Tepper was the driving force behind picking Bryce. The general feeling at the time is that he was the best player, The Teppers part is mostly rumor we’ve treated like fact. And it was 3–4 years ago. Most of us have changed our minds on Bryce like ten times since. Lastly I don’t think he’s calling the shots anymore. He seems looped in, not leading. I worked for the Panthers for about eight months, and I almost never saw him in the office. Dan Morgan and Brandt were there every day. That’s anecdotal, not proof but it suggests Dan is doing most of the work. if you asked me today if the Panthers are going to pay Bryce, I dont see it. He has not played well enough to heavily invest in him.
