Carryovers from the current administration

By administration I mean GM, coaching staff, and QB.

Every week I have been very optimistic about turning it around, and hesitant to throw anyone under the bus. But it's clear to me now, that Fox, Davidson, and Delhomme must go.

However, I would be open to keeping Hurney and Meeks. I'm not suggesting this is what SHOULD be done, but rather I wouldn't be pissed if it happened. Defense hasn't been the best, but it's been much better than I expected and good enough to support our talented offense. Jury's still out on Meeks IMO.

I also think Hurney has done a good job, except with Delhomme extension. But I forgive him for that, as I'm sure Fox had heavy influence that Delhomme was "his man". If you look around our starting lineup we have more top notch players than almost any team in the league. Smith, Williams, Gross, Beason, Davis, and Peppers are all all-pro caliber players at their positions. And Stewart and Otah are showing great promise of making it to that level.

I don't know as much about the individual position coaches as some other people on this board. Are any of them worth keeping around and/or promoting?

Oh yeah, almost forgot, no way in hell we should let anyone outbid us for Danny Crossman. He deserves the big bucks.

fox/hurney is a package deal unless hurney pulls the plug on fox, himself (which i don't see that happening).

i don't want a HC/GM. i want those two jobs separate.

i don't want the defense to go through learning another defensive scheme. i think this can be good if we have all the players healthy and can do the same aggressive and creative things we did in several games this year. i think it was pretty clear that meeks was working out of his comfort zone by blitzing but he did a good job with it. the defense that we saw the first half against the cowboys and against the cardinals...i liked a lot. i would keep the defensive staff the same.

this would mean having to go with someone that wasn't a defensive minded coach who could let meeks run the show on defense, just tell him to make it more aggressive and creative.

i don't want someone who is considered defensive minded or offensive minded. i want a manager/leader. i want someone who picks the best coordinators and lets them do their job. tell them where you want to go and what you want to look like and trust that they can get you there.

only changes (other than HC) i see being really necessary is on offense and special teams. i like jim skipper and dave magazu and think they do a good job so i'd want to keep them but everyone else could go.

however, i wouldn't be opposed to a new HC coming in and cleaning house if they felt it necessary. i just think that those house cleanings are called for in teams that need to be completely rebuilt. that's not the panthers.

I could see them keeping Rich Williamson (WR coach), Skipper and Magazu. The rest is easily replaced.

We still don't know if the Richardsons told Hurney to sign Delhomme or not. It's quite plausible that they told him to get a deal done. That would have left it out of his hands.

I'm not keen on the trade that netted Brown for a future first at the moment. Is he a decent player? I think so. Worth of multiple draft picks? Not right now. Still too early to tell.

There are a lot of pieces here that would be attractive to a new coach and coaching staff.

Why should Williamson stay ?

He doesn't have a stellar record in WR development.

As far as the coordinators, they're probably all gone because if a new coach came in he would likely want to install his own type of offense and defense.

With that said, he could keep Meeks if he's a cover 2 guy. If he likes to air it out and ignore the running game, then Davidson could stay as well. ;)

As far as the assistants, a lot of them might hang around, but they would have to interview for the jobs just like everyone else.

This all begs the question, what happens to Danny Crossman? :)

I'm okay with Hurney staying if it is in the role of VP of Contracts and Salary Cap (or something like that). A GM is suppose to be the person who in charge of the coaches and players, not in partnership with them. Hurney's biggest fault isn't in his decisions or drafts or things to that nature. It has been his inability to supervise Fox and make the tough calls when need be. If anything, Hurney should be fired for allowing himself to be "packaged" with Fox.

As for the coordiantors, position coaches, scouting departments and even players, a new GM and coach is going to mean changes. Depending on who those two people are will determine the outcome of how much turnover we see but no matter what there will be some turnover that we as fans won't like right off the bat.

Jerry Richardson doesn't want to give full control.

I'm a believer that a new coach generally wants to pick his own staff. If there are holdovers, it'll only be because he wants them.

Yea that would seem the case but alot of the time Coaches keep holdovers. Just like Jon Fox did.

Williamson was responsible for the development of Muhammad, Ismail, Smith and Jeffers while with the Panthers. IMO his cupboard has been bare the last few years.

    • Not totally inaccurate, haha Except that kid wasn't as excited as I was.  I was yelling louder, and more, and running around the room in circles until I almost passed out from exhausting and was trying to catch my breath for a good 10 minutes because I'm way too old to be doing that, LOLOL Oh, and I tweaked a muscle in my shoulder from all the fist pumping I was doing too. For as awesome as that pick was for me, it really screwed me up for a few days between my shoulder and lost voice (Wrexham securing back-to-back-to-back promotions Saturday afternoon contributed to that though too).
    • Getting Pierce jr isn’t forfeiting the pick they just had 2 1sts this year.
    • Full disclosure and the real reason.... I'll be seeing my Nephew in basically one month from today, and while I've gotten him stuff from my other teams the past year, I hadn't been willing to saddle him with Panthers stuff yet, that's now changed lol. So if the jersey would get to me before I see him, I'd get that and him his first Panthers onesie/shirt so I can get a picture of us together in them. If it wouldn't get to me by then, I'd just wait to get the one I prefer.  So yea, my rush is really just about trying to get a picture of myself in it with my Nephew in Panthers gear too.
