remember when the Panthers hardly ever ran a screen

I'm so sick of bubble screens. Every fifth play let's wing it out to a poorly protected receiver who might gain two yards.

We don't have Jake behind center and Smitty on the wing anymore. Just pass it down the damn field.

A DB is going to snag one of those and take it to the house eventually on us.

Historically it's always frustrated me that we've been a team that seemed incapable of using screens to slow the pass rush and keep the defense honest, and horrible at defending screens. Even Kuechly led badass defenses with TD roaming the field seemed not great at stopping them.

Gratifying to see we're at least using them now without being completely inept at them.

I may be wrong but the last time we were able to stop screens was that 2013 game against the saints in the rain. Since then the Saints haven’t ran much screens against us, and we haven’t been able to stop screens since lol

I was at that game. It was glorious. I disagree only that I feel we've NEVER been good at stopping screens, with the possible exception of the 96 team that's arguably the best defense this franchise ever had.

    • It's just a talking head.  Talking about gambling. If anybody takes the under on 4.5 wins, they're most likely losing their money.   So he's only saying if you want to bet on a possible sleeper, take the over.  It's not rocket science.  Pathetic that so many on the huddle have reduced themselves to posting purely trash every time they hit the submit button.
    • I mean I think the best case scenario has to hit for the Panthers and everyone else in the NFCS has to hit their worst case scenario.  Personally, I think this is the year that NO finally collapses and I think they finish 4th in the division regardless.  ATL is overrated but still likely a 6-9 win team. TB plays tough football, their defense will be there but their success depends on the offense, they too are a 6-9 win team.  The Panthers are probably 4-6 wins at best. If they find some sort of momentum during the season and get 7-8 wins, and TB and ATL struggle then maybe but I find it very unlikely.
    • We screwed up a couple years ago taking Bryce in the first place.  Nobody held a gun to our head to jump from #9 to #1.  Most people who keep up with draft news knew this 2024 QB class was loaded and we should have waited, which I advocated. It was a dumb move and I knew it.  Now we have to roll with Bryce another year.  That's fine, because this 2025 class isn't that great.  I like Ewers, but not super high on him.  If Bryce shows improvement, which I think he will, that should get him at least one more season before we have to decide on if he's the permanent answer or not.  I've said before, the 2026 draft is the next window for a franchise QB if Bryce isn't the answer. Bryce gets this year and next at a minimum.
