E.Brown evaluation....

In a considerably weaker draft class he made it all the way to the 2nd. What makes you think he would be higher this year. He fell not due to his production or work ethic but due to his size. That would still be here this draft and he would be facing more talented competition at every position for draft stock. Why do you think he declared early in the 1st place?

He was projected top 10 last year. (can't find the link that I posted before) But there WERE MANY mock drafts had him in the top 20. He would have only been more dominating than he was last season. Possible even the #1 DE regardless of size in the draft this year.

We got our DE a year early. Jramsey we will talk this time next year. I would almost guarantee, barring injury, he will be much more that you think he is. Well worth the trade we made for him.

I hope your right and theres nothing we can do about it anyway. BTW I like Brown and think he will do well I just didn't like giving up the 1st for him. It seems like our 2nd and next years 3rd would have done it.

Brown will be very good in a year or so. Will he be able to replace Pep? Maybe, talent wise no but he has the drive to do it. I don't think Brown was brought in to replace Peppers anyway he was selected to improve our pass rush. And as far as Peppers goes if he still wants to leave I say franchise him again and take anything you can get for him, weather it be a 1st, 2nd, two 3rds, whatever just get something for him. But you never know it is possible that Peppers will resign long term.

Charles Johnson should be ready to be a full time player next year. And I know I keep bringing this up but we could look at guys like Jarvis Moss and Vernon Gholston who could be on the chopping blocks of their respective teams this offseason.

Your hurting your case. If all you wanted was a pass rushing DE wait until your originally pick and get Sidbury Jr. In my eyes if he doesn't replace Pep at least as a solid RE the pick was a failure as it is looking to be top 10 or 15. You can find one dimensional DE all over the draft.

I think Brown will be a great DE for us but Peppers is a HOF talent, drive or no drive he could be best ever if he wanted it. It would be very hard to ask that of Brown. I think Brown will at least be the caliber of what Mike Rucker was in his prime but Peppers is absolutely ridiculous. Brown is much more than Hilee Taylor. Who knows Brown could end up being a better player than Pep but he is not a better talent.

Knowing how incredibly weak our pass rush has been the past 2 years, how is the pick a failure if Brown can't replace someone who he wasn't suppose to replace to begin with?

And really the problem isn't at DE. Charles Johnson and Brown could start for us, we just don't have any interior pressure at all. DT is where it's at folks. Lewis is worn out and needs to be replaced.

Finally a kindred spirit. We must get Brian Price if he comes out he would be an absolute force in the 3 technique. He has 22.5 TFL this season and 7 sacks. He most likely will be a late 1st though and thats assuming he comes out early.

BTW Brown would not be a failure the trade of a top 15 pick for 2nd round value (which IMO is what a decent RE is worth). So unless he becomes 1st round quality the trade was a failure. In other words I'm happy with the pick just pissed at the cost.

nfldraftscout.com had him rated number 19. For those not aware of what that site does, it works a bit like a 'metacritic.com' and averages out as many sources as they can. So that would have been a general indicator on where scouts placed him based on talent. He was rated behind Orakpo and Jackson only as DEs.

The reason he fell was because he was under-sized and because he no experience of coverage at all. Despite being a 'Tweener' he was also seen as being strong at the point of attack, so the main reason he fell was the mass movement to the 3-4 and the lack of need for a pass rushing 4-3 end.

He was compared to Abraham and Ware. The Ware comparison was less so because he did not have as fluid hips, which would hinder him in coverage.

So you think that Brown is more likely to turn out like the above listed "talent" than like Williams? I think you are crazy.

they were all highly touted players, much more so than brown

the only thing different with everette is that he plays for the team you cheer for

Ohhh, a pebble. That...was...beautiful, cept for the fact that even you know Brown has had an impact on the field.

Just come out and say "cause he failed to start his rookie season, and the cost of moving up to get him, I think the front office has failed" At least then you wouldn't be talking out of your ass, and you'd be offering an opinion which at least logical ~ even if it is short sited.

Yeah, kinda my thought on that as well PC.

Kinda the same as saying even idiots have an impact on society, with only the slight difference of the idiot having some affect by doing stupid sh!t.

The funny thing is if the draft happened over again the Colts would have taken him in the first instead of Brown, because now they are looking for another DE to be able to step in while Freeney/Mathis are tired or hurt. Hell I'm sure more teams would have taken them if they had the need for the position at the time, but such is the way the draft works out. If he came out this year he would go early, seeing as how the need for a pass rush is more evident than ever and well... he would have been a better prospect for next year than this year in most teams' eyes.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
