Where the QBs may land in the 2010 Draft

Nice of them to throw The Golden Calf of Bristol in the title just to get people to read it.

The Golden Calf of Bristol is a particularly polarizing player, as his throwing mechanics are not to NFL standards, but his leadership, character and intangibles are “off the charts,” according to one scouting director. “You'll need to teach him how to throw,” one scout said.

That's what I look for in a quarterback.

In all seriousness, The Golden Calf of Bristol's a great athlete and an even better person -- I hope he becomes a good NFL quarterback, I just have my doubts.

The example I always go back to is Aaron Rodgers falling to the 20s. He was the projected #1 pick by ALOT of analysts and teams just continued to pass on him. The same thing could happen this year with guys like Mallett and Bradford. I'm assuming Clausen and Locker are going to be at the top so cross them off. But then after that its a crapshoot on who is going to go.

Teams that WILL draft QBs are:

STL

CLE

So give Locker and Clausen to those two teams.

Oakland IDT will spend another high pick on a QB. Gradkowski is playing well and QBs at the top of the draft are mega bucks that they don't have right now b/c of Russell.

Lets say that Washington takes Bradford. So that knocks out the top 3 prospects. The rest of the draft is a bunch of teams that don't really need to draft a QB in the first 2 rounds. Why spend the money?

The only other two teams that are even thinking about drafting a QB at this point in the first round IMO are the Bills and MAYBE the Jags. But with Clausen, Bradford, and Locker all off the board who is worth taking??

Nobody is going to take The Golden Calf of Bristol or McCoy in the first or second round. If Mallett has a great combine then maybe he gets taken but he is going to have to have an amazing combine to go in the first.

Whatever happens...the Panthers will have their chance to draft either McCoy or Mallett IMO. I wouldn't mind having either of them.

Just remember that Joe Flacco AND Aaron Rodgers were probably more highly thought of than every QB in this draft other than Clausen....they dropped to the 20s were the 2nd QBs taken.

There is always a lot of talk about QBs going at the top of the first round but history tells you that unless they are undoubtedly the answer for a franchise (none of these guys are fool proof picks) then they will drop.

Cleveland will draft a QB?

They will HAVE to dump either Quinn or Anderson as both have hefty contracts. Add another high QB pick and you have a serious wedge tied up in QBs, which considering their problems would be much better spent elsewhere. Personally I do not see them drafting a QB first.

This is the current standings with their current situations:

Browns – Quinn - Definite Draft

Not playing as bad as people think and I imagine it's safe to assume Anderson is gone after this season. Will they draft another first round QB within 3 years? Unlikely in my mind, Quin though missed out on a lot of incentives so his contract is much more manageable. I think it probably depends on if Mangini is fired. If he is I would expect the new FO to pick up THEIR Qb.

Rams – Boller - Highest They Can Draft

Pretty obvious, they need a QB. I like Spagnuolo though and think he is building the foundations first, so I do not find it inconceivable they pick the bes tplayer that they can get that will hlep their team and then address the QB in the second round. The question to answer are any of the QBs legitimate 1 or 2 selection picks? If there is only one flawless player int he draft they will pick a QB.

Buccs - Freeman - Will Not Draft

Obvious

Lions - Stafford - Will Not Draft

Obvious

Chiefs – Cassell - Unlikely Draft

They kind of have to give him another season due to the contract. They may draft mid to late as they can't afford to have two monster QB contracts.

Skins - No one - Highest They Can Draft

Campbell is gone after this season. They will draft or trade for a starter. Or throw money at the best of the FA, which will be someone like Russell. If they can't get one of the early ones they will trade.

Bills - Edwards - Highest They Can Draft

Before the season this was a no brainer. They were so high on Edwards it was a little crazy. Now his HC is gone an he has been benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick. New FO, new QB in my mind.

Raiders – Gradkowski - Highest They Can Draft

Russell is as good as gone in my mind. Gradkowski is not a franchise calibre QB, but he could steady the ship for half a season. Davis is not gun shy, they WILL draft a QB.

Panthers - Delhomme - Definite Draft

No Moore, he has not proven he can take the franchise over yet. Common sense they draft early, yet I am not convinced they will simply due to their track record. Obviously depends on if a new FO is brought in.

Bears - Cutler - Will Not Draft

Obvious. Although he cost a lot...

Texans – Schaub - Possible Draft

Good player, but is as injury prone as a man of glass. They will draft someone soon. Has earnt the lions share of his contract in the first three years, so will likely see competition brought in. Carr ordeal probably still in their minds, but I think Schaub is just to unreliable enough for them not to think about an upgrade.

49ers - Smith - Definite Draft

Great mid season performances has this franchise thinking twice about drafting another first round QB. He is cheap after completely re-doing his contract after injuries, so he will be the starter next season. Would they bring in a first round QB to challenge for him? Possibly, although I could see them taking someone later in the draft. They just need a few key players to make this team a contender.

Hawks - Hasselbeck - Definite Draft

Does this situation remind you of our team?! Any season now he will wind down his career, could even come this season. Wallace has been given a TON of opportunities and proved he is a back up in this league. Hasselbeck has until 2011, as does Wallace. They will draft someone, how early is the question.

Titans - Young - Definite Draft

This late season surge may well have saved his career. His contract is due to expire after the 2011 season, he could well have been a cap casualty in the un-capped off season that is fast approaching. 5 straight wins with only 39 rushes in 6 games. He is winning the conventional way AND looking after the football. He starts next year and is given the full season to prove he deserves another contract, if one does not come this off season. Despite this I can see up to a second rounder being used to draft an insurance policy

Falcons - Ryan - Will Not Draft

Obvious

Ravens – Flacco - Will Not Draft

Obvious

Dolphins – Henne - Will Not Draft

Obvious for now

Jets – Sanchez - Will Not Draft

Obvious, for now

Steelers - Roethlisberger - Unlikely Draft

Injuries keep coming, but unless something serious hits him they will only ever be drafting in the later rounds

Jags – Garrard - Possible Draft

This one seems pretty obvious to me. Garrard will not win them games so I would have thought a QB draft would have been likely, BUT he signed a $60mil 7 year deal just last year. They may still draft a QB, but it will be a view to sitting him for a few seasons, so they 'may' take one of the ones with exceptional physical gifts, that just needs coaching

Pats – Brady - Will Not Draft

Obvious

Giants - Eli Manning - Will Not Draft

Do not rate him one bit but the Giants do. Massive extension this year means he is the signal caller for the foreseeable future

Cards - Warner & Leinart - Will Not Draft

Warner maybe bow out soon and Leinart has until 2012 of his rookie contract. They are too close to being perennial contenders to put faith in rookies now, so Leinart will be given a chance. If a QB is drafted, it will not be a first or second day QB.

Cowboys - Romo - Unlikely Draft

Not a fan, but he is two years into a 6 year extension and 'statistically' is playing well. At 29 they will want his heir on the roster soon.

Broncos – Orton - Possible Draft

A mystery. My own thoughts are that McDaniels believes he can make most intelligent QBs work. The fact that he jetisoned a talented QB for a manager, suggests that he does not value first round QBs. They will only draft first round if Orton leaves.

Packers – Rodgers - Will Not Draft

Obvious

Eagles - McNabb - Will Not Draft

Kolb looks promising and McNabb isn’t giving up yet

Bengals - Carson Palmer - Possible Draft

Before the season this would be a possibility, still is. Injury similar to Delhommes could make them consider this, especially as the res tof the team is coming around. At 29, considering his elbow, they might want his heir on the roster sooner rather than later.

Chargers - Philip Rivers - Will Not Draft

Obvious

Vikings - Favre - Possible Draft

Not inconceivable, look for any decline in Favre or if he actually retires

Colts - Peyton Manning - Will Not Draft

Obvious

Saints - Drew Brees - Will Not Draft

Obvious

I can only really see 4 teams who will DEFINITELY be picking a QB with their top pick. 5 Will likely be looking for an early QB between rounds 1-3, 5 will pick one up someone and 8 may take a flier on someone with raw potential.
