Some near me have closed (during normal daylight business hours) for brief periods because of staffing issues. They make enough to pay their employees better.

But if they did that the executives and shareholders wouldn't make as much. And that just isn't the American way.

They are not considered grocery stores and do not qualify as a grocery business when it comes to classifying urban food deserts. Why is this important? Because workforce housing projects with government tax incentives for the developers are required to be within 1 mile of a legitimate grocery store, as many of the residents may be disabled, economically challenged without transportation, etc.
