I'm not worried about the numbers.  I said before the season I felt he was going to have a rookie season similar to Luck.  Both are high IQ players who are going to be aggressive and not settle for the easy throws.  Young didn't make bad reads; he did, however, underestimate how fast DBs break on the ball.  That will be fixed with more time in the league.  But I was impressed by his willingness to try and hit those tight windows.

Luck's 1st Game - 23/45, 1 TD, 3 INTs, 52.9 QB Rating

Peyton Manning's whole first season...

Exactly.

And look obviously before anyone says it, Peyton played in 1998, Bryce throwing that many picks would be concerning.  But the point is you can't judge a rookie QB based off the amount of picks they throw, how pretty their TD/INT ratio is, etc. Bryce is being asked to be a playmaker with a team lacking a lot of playmakers around him.  Mistakes will happen.  But today felt encouraging to me.  I saw a QB making the best read 9 times out of 10, I saw a QB willing to be aggressive and give his receivers a chance.  I think we need to give him more time to get in sync with these receivers, who are either very young (Mingo, Marshall) or in this system for the first time (Thielen, Hurst, Chark when he arrives).

Well allow me to point out a few things. When we traded up to the first overall pick and forfeited our best WR and another first rounder there was an expectation or two. Nothing extreme like instant playoffs but just a basic low bar. Defeating the Desmond Ridder led Falcons would qualify. Today was dreadful.

I’d rather watch Fox ball. Single wing. A game in a torrential rainstorm without a forward pass thrown. Okay I exagerrate. But….

First thing this bunch did was mortgage the future to ensure we would be running short yardage dives from the gun. Didnt like the idea of it, hate the reality. It isnt pretty.

    • We were bad for years before Bryce Young and it wasn’t like this. I didn’t like the Rhule hire, but I didn’t drag the board down every chance I got. I didn’t like letting Cam go and bringing in Teddy, but I didn’t make it my mission in life to make sure everybody who disagreed with me was berated into submission.
    • it's pretty simple IMO.  The Tepper Panthers are the most unsuccessful professional sports team in all of sports.  The problem isn't the posters here have changed ( I still content people falsely romanticize the old days).  The product dictates the atmosphere more than anything.  In reality, the daily convos about THE worst team in all of pro sports on a fanatics site....is going to feature harsh and critical convo.  Only one entity can actually change that.  It's the Carolina Panthers football team.  if you are the most unsuccessful professional sports teams (Tepper's Panthers are that).....and a place like this isn't filled with very critical thoughts? Well, you probably don't actually have a real fanbase IMO.
    • Yes message boards will always include that sort of stuff… However, this place has been a cess pool since the team took Bryce Young over CJ Stroud. It becomes a problem when it is accepted and promoted, which it has been here (even by at least one mod). Many posters sole purpose on this board is to try to dunk on others for having different opinions. We just had one write a novella on how talking about Bryce Young’s game winning drives “needs to stop”…after a win. They don’t want real conversation. It “needs to stop”. There are many posters here who literally only show up after losses to dead thread and try to dunk on others about the QB (MRenshaw is an easy example). I really don’t see much of that happening the other way around. There’s too many people that would rather the team be bad so they can feel justified for constant doom and gloom and negative opinions. It’s been pointed out by many over the past couple years. This just isn’t a place to have football discussions anymore because of the constant hyperbole. If you don’t subscribe to “Bryce Young is the worst QB ever who can’t throw the ball further than 5 yards and is the reason why we lose any game we lose and doesn’t help in any game we win”, then you are labeled a Bryce Young Stan.
