the three man rush...

We prob will see some on 3rdowns some. The play does not work all the time.I remember we did it at the NE game and brady picked it apart.
i checked out that game against the pats and they did do it a good number of times but they were playing around with personnel.

i don't know i would consider brady to have picked it apart, though...

the first time they couldn't convert even though they got some yardage.

2nd time they got the first down.

3rd time brought a 3 and out.

4th and 5th times they converted.6th and 7th the moved the ball but didn't couldn't get a 1st down and ended up kicking a field goal.

6th and 7th times resulted in a incomplete pass and a false start by moss that brought in the punting team

the 8th time the pats couldn't convert either but they got a FG on the next play.

they used johnson and lewis in the three man rushes but i guess they decided that brayton was a better option in there.

they used it 13 times against the bucs as well. before that i don't think you see it much more than one or two times every once in a while. it looks like they found the personnel they like with it, though. expect to use see it a good bit more the next could weeks...esp. against the saints.

The D has been performing well for a while how, it started out slow, but it seems like they are getting used to the system and have been getting better every game.

Just need a GOOD run stuffing DT ( I hope kemo comes back with no problems, but at that weight having an achilles problem is pretty iffy ) and they need to stop having these random games where everyone forgets how to tackle ( see Dolphins game ).

Anything that helps our defense stop choking on 3rd and longs is more than welcome. I'm surprised such a formation worked so well for us, and here I thought all we could run is a lazy cover 2. I can't wait to see more of this formation. I hope to god this thread stays civil though and nobody starts with the 3-4 talks.

Brayton "demanding" a double team last week was so unexpected, didn't know he had it in him lol. Wesley doesn't look so bad on defense, already got himself a sack. I'm surprised there aren't any Anderson threads. That guy was on fire against the Vikings. I thought people would care about an old draft pick finally maybe working out for us, but whatever.

Again the only thing that made that formation outstanding was Peppers playing out of his mind in that game (yes, others played well, but Pep caused the true disruption). Otherwise it's just better than average.

Y'all put waaaaaaaaaay too much into schemes and coaching.

could be chicken/egg though. Maybe Meeks has found a scheme that Peppers responds better too for whatever reason.

Or, maybe Pep finally wanted to show others he was at least as good as Allen.

I'm amazed the Vikings just didn't run simple dives and misdirections. They could have loaded up on yards.

Tell me the scheme that can make a player bust double teams and bull rush a pretty good LT seemingly at will, and I will make you a multi-millionare.

Our LB's played well that game too, so I'm not sure misdirections were the answer. In fact, they tried a few but it was thwarted by good tackling, especially by Anderson.

I don't dispute Pep's talent. Players at times rely on psychological stuff to get them going. From eating certain foods on games days to whatever. Look at the # of players in baseball who almost have to hit in a certain slot in the lineup. The lineup doesn't really matter.

We don't really know if Pep told the coaches that this formation gives him the freedom to be who he wants to be.

Either way, we won't know.

I'm just glad they were willing to do some different things.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
