How many times are you going to let John Fox fool you?

Browsing around the board during the game, I'm seeing the same predictable posts about how suddenly Fox isn't that bad, he should return, this is a playoff team, etc.

Haven't we gone through this boring cycle enough times for you all to get it? Here is how every two seasons will always go with John Fox as Head Coach:

- Have a nice regular season and make the playoffs only to not win the Super Bowl.

followed by

- Have an extremely disappointing season only to start playing well when there is no longer anything to play for. Rattle off three or four wins in December to make the season look better than it really was.

What you all need to think about and what Jerry Richardson needs to think about is: Is this endless cycle justifiable to keep Fox around indefinitely?

If having an exciting season every other year (with no Super Bowl title to go with it) followed by a disappointing season where we finish strong in garbage time to go 7-9 or 8-8 is good enough for you, then you should want Fox to stay here.

If it's not good enough for you and your goal is an actual consistent, Super Bowl-winning team, John Fox will NEVER be the guy for the job.

We've seen it time after time after time. When the team is favored in a big game, they never ever get it done. When they're huge underdogs to good teams in meaningless games, there is nobody better at playing spoiler.

Is that good enough for you? Mediocrity? Being consistently inconsistent?

It's not good enough for me and it shouldn't be good enough for you or for Jerry Richardson either.

If he had pulled Jake 11 weeks ago we would be in the Playoffs. He gets this team up to play every week. I just cant dismiss that. The only thing JR needs to do is to make sure Jake is not the starter next year IMO. I know he doesn't get involved in how Fox runs the team, But I think this one time he should.

"If, if, if"

Every team has small reasons why they didn't make the playoffs.

It was FOX'S decision to keep Moore from playing earlier. No one else's. Thus, it was Fox's fault why we aren't in the playoff hunt right now.

Give it up Sammy, Fox is not gonna get fired.

If Jerry Richardson is happy with mediocrity as the ceiling on this team, you're right.

Seriously, how many more cycles of the same thing have to happen before a change is made? (Assuming Fox does return)

If Fox stays here another decade and this same damn cycle happens every two seasons, would you guys be happy with that?

Please define "consistency" and which teams meet your standards of consistency. I think we're 2nd in the NFC in total wins since Fox got here in 2002. Also, off the top of my head I can think of 4 teams who have been as or more "consistent" than the Panthers: Philly, New England, Pittsburgh and Indy.

Of those 4 teams, Philly has been to a Superbowl and lost, Indy has only been to 1 Super Bowl. Only Pittsburgh and NE stand head and shoulders above the Panthers with multiple SB titles.

In that same time frame the Panthers have 2 division titles, a super bowl, 2 nfc title games, and 3 playoff appearances.

So we have basically been a top 5 team overall since 2002, yet you are asking for more consistency. Sure we'd all like to be in the playoffs every year and contend for the title every year but the reality is that it just doesn't happen in professional football.

this. cut jake, let it be an open comp going into next year. no more bs that its open, but its really jake's job. meeks and fox have done wonders the last 2 weeks with the defense (stopping the running game). imo we are 1 or 2 parts on defense away from being dominant. on offense, well we still need a wr or 2+, and still need to find a qb. atleast a backup qb if moore isnt the answer.

How about a set of back-to-back winning seasons? John Fox is going to tie the record for most years coached without a set of back-to-back winning seasons in league history. If the Falcons win next week, the Panthers will be the only franchise in the league without back-to-back winning seasons along with the Texans.

    • All signs point to legit. We’ve been way better than our record the last few years it’s just we’ve had brutal injury luck. Also I’ve watched nearly every game this year and 3 things have stood out to me even when healthy from early in the year to now: 1. Early on Lee had some brutal rotations and situational coaching but he’s improved a ton there. We lost some close ones early we should’ve won. Sure most our recent games have been blowouts but in close games we’ve improved a ton there. 2. Defense. Overall team defense has improved so much, it’s not just hot shooting winning games. This D is absolutely a real trend and sustainable. LaMelo in particular has gone from flat out bad defensively to above average. We have so much length we always should’ve been good defensively but it took time for guys to buy in and really hone in on it which they have.   3. Pretty much all our young guys have taken strides forward. Moose’s development as a passer has been insane, Miller is putting it all together to be an elite 3 tier scorer able to hit 3s, mid range and finish at the rim. LaMelo still some poor shot selection but has cut the turnovers considerably. Kon has been a great shooter all year but has steadily improved in other aspects of the game too.      It has definitely been surprising how quickly it all came together out of nowhere but really none of it surprises me. We’ve been building towards this for years now.
