Local writers tip toeing around Jake...

Local reporters are hedging their bet so they don't end up on the outs with the Panthers. It's the same as when you're buddy breaks up with a girl - you don't want to say anything bad about her right away because they might get back together and then it would be awkward.

Somebody watched "Better off Ted" last night! Great show!

Financial attachments are even more of a hell of a thing. You seem the emotional one here. Anyone can plainly see that it makes no sense to get rid of him given we are on the hook either way. Only someone emotionally attached to getting rid of him at all cost would argue as you do.

Would cutting him save us any money, yes or no.

Yeah, he didn't peak 5 years ago, it's just his best season was 5 years ago leading up to a 59 passer rating currently.

That's the ticket!

Last year his rating was 85. Until this year his rating every year in the league was 80 or better with 2003 being his worst.

Now you are just babbling.

Jake has always had his distractors, even when his stats were good you are lying if you didn't get nervous when he dropped by to pass.

Best thing he had going for him was Steve Smith bailing him out left and right and Fox's system designed to make Defenses not look for the Pass first.

Moore has more talent, could be alot better in Fox's system I think.

passer rating, QB rating, completion percentage, TD's in the 4th quarter, Comeback wins, playoff win percentage, etc

blah

some people will always pick out one of these numbers to serve their argument. Which one is really not important just pick one apparently.

That about sums up how important stats are. We have all been bombarded with those listed above in spite of watching our team melt under the weight of Jake's inefficiencies for years.

Take it with a grain of salt. Some people still think Jake is awseome, was awesome, and can be awesome again apparently.

How can you argue with logic like that? Why try?

JR is on the hook to pay him the guaranteed amount. If no CBA is reached before March 1st, then an uncapped year is in place so it wouldn't hurt the team to cut him (will not happen especially if Fox is still here).

?

you only bash stats because they don't support the argument that Jake peeked in 03 and has been crap ever since.

i don't think anyone is picking just one. if u look at 03-07 his passer rating, comeback wins, w-l record, 4th quarter, 2 min drives, playoff ratings were all positives and support Jake as being a more than solid QB during those seasons.

    • With Schoen and Dan Morgan being tight I’d figure we knew this was coming and since he is released, Dan didn’t bite.    But, a quick search says this is at least 80% cap related. They have No cap space and save 8 or 9 million with releasing him.  He has been a captain his entire time there. 145 tackles this year.  They are picking 5th with a new staff and looking at Styles. Hitting that age 30 season and had a disc issue last year (meaning 2024) that did not require surgery.  I haven’t really watched him play but he activated the antennae.
    • OK, we are letting our top RB go.  We have Chuba, Etienne, and Brooks.  Imagine a player who could LEGITIMATELY play the slot and back up at RB?  I am sure he'd be a special team player as well.  I noticed him at the combine, and thought, "Here is a late rounder who could stand out as a slot and provide depth at RB. Without further ado....(I know one Huddler who might be able to tell us more about this guy): Navy running back/wide receiver Eli Heidenreich headlined the 2026 NFL Combine for the Midshipmen, running an official 4.44-second 40-yard dash and recording 16 reps on the bench press. Recognized as a versatile, "Swiss army knife" offensive weapon, Heidenreich solidified his draft stock as a potential day three target.    Eli Heidenreich (RB/WR - Navy) 2026 Combine Performance: 6'0" 200 lbs.   40-Yard Dash: 4.44 seconds. 10-Yard Split: 1.55 seconds. Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches. Broad Jump: 10' 0". Bench Press: 16 Reps. Highlights: Showcased as a premier receiving threat from the backfield, having left Navy as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,994). High character.  Smart.  Maybe, just maybe....
