The Pick the Panthers gave to the 49ers was......

Brown is something and that pick could also turn out to be something - or nothing - so right now having Brown is better than nothing.

It's also possible that we could end up trading for the 16th pick or better this year. As I look down that list, I ask myself if Jacksonville really wants to pay 10th or 11th overall pick money... many experts agree The Golden Calf of Bristol may still be on the board at the start of the 2nd round.

On Brown, we have a known commodity now, who has had a full year of NFL development in our system, who is a pretty good player and has been getting better all year long. I have stood by the decision to trade that pick to get him and I hope he makes the same progress next year.

I like what I've seen from Brown in a limited role. He'll no doubt put on a couple lbs. this summer and he'll have a year in the system under his belt. Given his speed, desire and work ethic I have little doubt this will work out in the long run. Too many expect/want instant gratification with these trades and it rarely works that way, especially with DL's.

Well we traded away this year's pick to get a guy now that could step in and play well.

That was the deal, and that's why we did it. If we wanted a guy that was going to be good later, we wouldn't have traded for it now.

In that respect, Brown was a failure. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm sure he'll be a good player for us down the line. But that's not the point of the trade. That's not how the trade should be evaluated.

It was a bad move that probably won't hurt the team down the line, but definitely helped handicap us.

If we did not have Brown and lost either Brayton or Pep to FA, then I would imagine our first round pick this year would have been a DE. Therefore we genuinely did just pick our DE a year earlier than we needed him.

except we may have got Carlos Dunlap instead of Brown

    • 1. Cowboys-No explanation needed. 2. Rest of NFC South equally. If I had to pick I would say Falcons.    3. Eagles- Both of the games I have attended there the fans were so horrible. The fan base is so ridiculously misbehaved, I’ve never seen such immaturity. 4- Lions- I have cousins in Michigan that grew up Lions fans and they are some of the most obnoxious people I have ever met, as are all of their Lions buddies. The NFL has been lucky that Detroit has been in the cellar for its eternity.    5. Tie between Bears and Vikings. Both act like Steelers, Cowboys, Niners fans do with nostalgia and legendary seasons but neither have ever really had them. They act like they each won 5 super bowls in previous decades but never accomplished poo outside of Chicago in 85.
