Is loosing Peppers going to be that bad?

care to back this up?

Yeah, really.. I mean don't get me wrong, I thought the Delhomme deal was stupid, as was trading the 1st, but other than that I've been really impressed with how this team has been ran.

1) Take a look at our 1st round drafting history, we've got several pro-bowl quality players still on our roster. Not only that, we've gotten some studs from free agency/later rounds(Chris Harris from trading a 5th rounder, Ryan Kalil, etc list goes on.

2) I'm pretty sure the Delhomme deal was made to free up some cap room in case we needed to sign some FAs this season(which we obviously did)

Despite last year, Panthers are a pretty good team to be a fan of. EVERY team eventually drafts a bust, or signs a player to a big deal that ends up backfiring, etc. I know people don't like Fox, but he's a good coach and I can guarantee you that if we would have fired him he'd have been picked up damn near instantly. I have faith in our front office, and will continue until proven otherwise.

it's easy to focus on the bad and ignore the good, but their track record has more positives than you think. no front office is perfect; it's all about giving yourself the best chance to win. by drafting, trading, trading for, signing, scouting, extending, and developing these guys, the front office deserves a hell of a lot more credit than internet message board crusaders give them.

Personally, I want Peppers as a career Panther. It's very unlikely, but you don't just find athletes like that floating around everywhere. You might have 3 athletes of his quality every ten years. That's about it.

Now with that said, I think we'd be able to cope without him. We have a very solid defense as it is. Losing Peps would drop us a notch or two, but it's not like we're going to only win 5 games next season because of it.

I'd be terribly sad to see Peps go, though. He's been the defensive leader of the team as long as I can remember, considering I'm only 15 and can't recall anything before the 2003 playoff run. So I'd definitely miss him.

well that was kinda blown outta proportion.. I wasnt bashing the front office persay.. I agree our FO has been pretty damn good butttt im just saying if we let peppers go it could come back to bite us in the butt, esp if we would have to go up againist him. But on the other hand if we do resign peppers and he gets hurt on week one then we would look back and say damn we should have let him go..

Maybe I was wrong with my wording, I should have been PC and said whatever happens in retospect people could look back and say damn we should have done this and instead of that.

Remember this is a message board and not a board meeting there is a little room for sarcasim.

But being in the FO is kinda like being a cop, they do alot of good deeds but it only takes one mess up for people to lose confidence. And the bad seems to overcome the good alot of the times.

I agree with this. Somehow, I hope Peppers stays and ends up a career Panther.

how does it ALL depend on them? those are two draft picks out of a decade. we can reasonably deduct an answer based on the current track record.

Well because if CJ and Brown can't get it done then we are toast. We will have zero pass rush. And to be honest our pass rush wasn't even that good with Peppers but at least we had one.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
