Will our secondary hold up in the playoffs?

Its not the secondary, when you are missing 1/2 your d line and you have to stick 7 to 8in the box and lose all pass coverage from your linebackers because they have to cover the run all the time. Then the safeties and the corners are stuck one on one and forced to play soft coverage, they are gonna get beat. If we get our run stoppers back, Beason and the boys can mix it up a little more and we can play tighter corners with safety back up. That is my professional opinion!!

Agreed. I don't feel our pass rush has been up to norm this year and it has put a lot of pressure on the secondary. Here is to hoping that is fixed come the divisional round in a week or so.

in past seasons it seemed like when Lucas was in man he would be more banged up as the season went on..maybe this was just to keep him fresh for playoff mauling? :boxing_smiley:

I think that is just wishful thinking. As others have said we've had no push in the middle of the D-line. All Brees had to do was wait for the ends to go past and step up to make his throw. We have to have the pressure from the middle to make the ends effective and make the QB throw before he's ready.

Lewis is a hell of a pass rusher. Having him back with Brayton, Johnson, and Peppers on the line will make our secondary look a TON better. To the OP, yes. No one in the NFC save Arizona is going to make our secondary break a sweat.

Do you think we will be getting Lewis back for the next game? I haven't heard anything of late.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
