Sad News about a Fellow Huddler

Just to clarify, no one here is passing judgement because of how he chose to go out. Some of us are happy he chose to go it alone.

I do hope his family can recover from the loss as quickly as possible and have only best wishes for them.

I guess I should clarify that I have chosen not to read the news stories. I have seen enough on the mb to know that I don't need nor want to. He made his own choices and maybe for him it was the only way he could see, right or wrong.

In the end - I see a human who was in pain, needed a lot of help and not many people knew it. That's really sad. All I am trying to convey is unless any of us walked a mile in his shoes, none of us really know what he thought, how he felt and why he came to this choice. I just think compassion is what is needed for his family. This is a heavy burden to bear. That's all.

I agree.

It really makes you think about other similar cases though. For example, if we didn't know Electro, we could very easily judge him -- just as we would if we had heard this case on the news but knew nothing of the person involved.

This makes me want to extend a little compassion to everyone. I don't know what was involved with anything I hear about on the news. It's easy to judge people by their last actions on Earth, but much harder to do that when you know of their many kind actions prior to that.

From all accounts here on the Huddle, Electro was a good dude. It's unfortunate the way he left us, but that doesn't change all the good he did for others, nor does it diminish who he was as a person prior to this.

Maybe we can all take a lesson from this and realize that all the people on the news who met similar fates were people, too -- people plagued with issues that most of us don't have to worry about, but people just the same.

So true BB. That IS the lesson. It's a cliche but it's true. Don't judge a book by it's cover. There are tons of people that on the surface we think we have nothing in common with but after spending some time with them and getting out of our comfort zone and hang with someone that doesn't look/talk/act/ you, then you realize what's up.

One thing I always try to do is find some common ground with someone I don't know or just met. On the Huddle that should be easy due to the Panthers. From there you just build on it.

Ain't that the truth.

nice choice of words....

Don't want to put words in Zod's mouth, but I think he's saying that it's good that Clifton did not choose to take any family members' lives or the lives of police officers who were called to his home. We often read and see such scenarios in the news.

It is sad that he chose this path for himself, especially for the impact it will have forever on his girlfriend, his daughters, the rest of his family and his friends.

I cannot judge why he chose what he chose. They are the ones who will continue to suffer for this.

To read the words "permasmile" that Clifton carried still doesn't convey how he seemed to radiate with happiness at the tailgates... (for those who never met him)

The man I first met on the boards was not the same man I met in person.. Seeing the guy in person and our first hand shake took me by surprise (in a positive sense).. He was the most welcoming person to talk to.

That is exactly what he meant. I can't tell you how many times we have seen what you mentioned and my first response was at least leave the kids out of it.

If there is a silver lining in this odd mess, it is that.

I feel terrible for Clifton and his family. I'm sorry, but I feel worse for the animals. That's just how I am. They did nothing wrong. If you have multiple animals, people, and you can't care for them any longer, take them to the humane society. That's why it's there.

I think the sentiment is that this type of statement should be saved, or needs another thread of its own...

No one here is saying that they do not feel sympathy for the animals. It was a terrible scene.

But, to say you feel worse for the animals that you do for him and his family is not only twisted, it is totally inappropriate in this forum.

His family is hurting and has gone through a terrible ordeal. You can feel that way, but the fact that you actually posted it here (where his GF and others are reading) is tremendously insensitive.

Not trying to attack you....but that should have gone unsaid and unposted.

There are some people on the board who are being quiet on this matter for specific reasons. I respect them for doing so.

this is how i feel.

i don't know the guy and have never spoken to him outside of arguing in the tinderbox. but i would've driven down from VA and put those animals up somewhere at my own expense if the alternative was them starving to death. it's a horrifying thought.

Don't lecture me until you have spent hours at a humane society and seen the results of this kind of thing up close and personal. Seriously.

Dude, what MadHatter said is right... we're not saying that you don't have a valid point... animal cruelty is a very bad thing... we're saying make another thread...

    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
