So, what happens with the 2011 draft class if there is a lockout? Do they sit out with the rest of the players and lose entirely a year of experience, cross the lines and play with the scabs anyway becoming an outsider on their teams and risking embarassment if they can't hack it on the horrible teams, risk injury and find a way to stay in college another year and bloat the 2012 draft class, or just give up on atheletics entirely?

Number one in 2011 might only be worth being an UDFA after a year with no playing and a whole new class of younger prospects to contend with right off the bat.

WTF??? your saying is the #1 pick this year (Suh, Bradford etc.) Will be less valuable next year then Mr. Insignificant of 2011?? If I read this right by your logic Peyton Manning (1998 #1 pick) had less value in 1999 then Jim Finn (last pick in 1999.)

I know there will still be a draft. But beyond money, a lockout could really damage a rookie's career before it even starts in a lot of ways.

Reverse your logic. What I'm saying is something akin to a Tom Brady having a distinct disadvantage to a 1st overall from 2001 who shall remain nameless in the traditional mindset of most of the league, especially if Tom Brady had already taken a full year off from actual play. #199 a year ago doesn't look as sexy as #1 this year no matter who it is.

they aren't going to "take a year off". They'll probably train harder than usualy and possibly go to other outlets like Arena football or that newer football leage(UFL?).

If they go for the draft, they'll sign a contract with the NFL, just won't play and won't get paid like Kurb said. Would they be able to go to another competing outlet?

good point, they wouldn't be able to go to a competing outlet but a lot of the 2nd day/UDFA's would.

Not many junior's would come out most likely.

They would probably just all flock to those bleeding edge training facilities like all of these guys do. Many tractor tires will be flipped and many medicine balls will be manipulated.

why not pause everyones contract and pay everyone league minimum for a year ?
