Marshall Tender - Analysis

Recommended Posts

When i saw that the panthers had only placed the 2nd round tender on marshall, my first thought is that we were going on the cheap this season to make a point to the players. but after thinking about a few scenarios, this could be a calculated move by the panthers on a few fronts.

I think we could all agree that our secondary last year was respectable, but had inflated status due to our inability to stop the run consistently. This may have cause marshall and his agent to think that he suddenly deserves money like a #1 corner. dont get me wrong, i like marshall, he is tough, quick and has decent hands. but is sometimes out of position by playing too aggressive, and having an inexperienced safety to back him out has made this more apparent.

So, maybe the panthers are giving his a little gut check to see what he is really worth.

Worse case is that we get a 2nd round pick out of him and maybe need to fill his shoes with someone already on the roster, or through this draft. but we are relatively deep in the secondary. maybe would take a look at moving either godfrey or martin into the nickel spot and captain into the #2 CB spot. Or, we do go after someone like Daunta Robinson (doubtful) who knows.

but if we got a decent 2nd round pick for marshall and was able to draft another solid DB, that would be fine. I would rather see them package our current 2nd round pick and the aquired 2nd round pick to move into striking range of a dynamic WR like Golden Tate.

To me, i could handle losing Marshall, and allowing some of our other young guys to step up, and also help out the teams biggest need at WR with a top tier talent like Tate. this may be the only way we can move up and grab him unless we give up a future #1, which i dont think we should consider.

what do you guys think?

Marshall is definitely being put out there to entice a team to give up a second.

However, since the Panther's also have the right to match any offer this is possibly a way to get him cheaper than what he is asking for. I have also heard that Marshall wants #1 money and the FO does not want to give it to him. With a second round tender there is a good chance that someone is going to offer him a decent contract but probably not #1 money.

It's sorta like when you were a kid and threatened to run away, your parents said go right ahead.

An hour later you come home because it was a lot harder out there than you thought.

I think Fiz is a runaway who turned rabid.

Marshall will be signed by the Panthers for a moderate contract, most likely.

Right on, the Panthers are giving Marshall a little reality check on what his market worth is. If someone (ahem, Dan Synder or Jerry Jones) comes along and offers him an obscene amount of money, the worst that happens to us is we get a 2nd round pick.

If we had an extra 2nd, u guys think we would use it to move up or just get another player in that round?

pure speculation in know, but its still interesting to think about the possibility

I'd say stay in the second round; the first rounder might be a bust.

its a deep draft, i'd prefer us to stick with the second rounders. even if we traded up we wouldn't have a high first round pick, so if we aren't getting the cream of the crop i'd like to nab some guys in the second

I think Marshall is simply safe w/ a 2nd rounder.......for every positive he does on the field he normally has a negative play to counter it. I'd be happy if he went back to being the nickel corner. I don't like him as the #2.

    • Winning games and be a +500 team are good. But the goal is to win Super Bowl.  Chiefs had Alex Smith, went to playoff twice and still replaced him.   BY as of now: - To many fumbles - Completion in the intermediate range is just far below acceptable - Not enough of a deep throw threat....   The stats you try use is deceiving.  Catchable......  That is an opinion. Show me the completion %. And also, how does BY compare to other QBs using the stats you cited. Oh... ranked at 27

    • The Entitlement Paradox: When Winning Isn't Enough for Panther fans.    Just the other season(s) we were praying for wins by any means. Brought in every run of the mill QB you could think of.  We know all sides of the ball was bad like egregious bad. However some how we have won 5 games and TOXIC ENTITLEMENT has emerged.    We are a team that has to take wins by anymeans nothing has changed. Keep pounding means it aint gonna be perfect!!    Some panther fans have now developed a toxic entitlement where even victories feel insufficient, demanding flawless performance, or perfection, which stems from historical success in which we dont have any lol. This mindset poisons communities by fostering relentless criticism, harassment, and ingratitude that undermine team morale and alienate casual supporters. For the new Carolina Panthers, this could manifest as fans booing Bryce Young after gritty wins for low passing yards despite low turnovers, pressuring tepper into premature changes mid-rebuild, or driving away talent through online abuse!! eroding the positive momentum from their recent 4-game streak has brought us. Trust and believe the players do see your toxicity.    Anyways here are some positive stats.      Most Accurate QB on... 20+ Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (79.2%) 2. Sam Darnold (79.2%) 3. Bryce Young (75.0%) 10-19 Yard Throws 1. Jaxson Dart (88.0%) 2. Jayden Daniels (82.9%) 3. Drake Maye (80.7%) 0-9 Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (92.9%) 2. Spencer Rattler (92.6%) 3. Bryce Young (91.7%) @FantasyPtsData
