Smitty vs. Fitzgerald

I'd like to see these two in a skills competition..... send them both down the field and throw up a "hail mary" and see which one comes down with it!!! Wow, they have to be the two best frisbee catchers in the league.. It would be worth the price of admission.

You may be right, but I'd never bet against Smitty on anything... he's just way too savy... Not sure how he does it, but he always does... Imagine having Smitty on one side and Fitz on the other.... How would you stop that?

My money would be on Fitz, Smitty is great but Fitz just is a freak.

In terms of ball skills, Fitzgerald is the best in the league, better than Randy Moss too. He catches with his hands more than anyone.

I love Smith's explosiveness everywhere on the field though, he isn't like other receivers who are effective down the field but not too short, Smith's effectiveness is the same everywhere he goes

Yeah he's more physical than Moss, and has unreal body control as well. I love to watch him. I would say he and Smitty are 1 and 1a, with Fitz maybe having a slight edge solely due to his height which certainly is no fault of Smitty's.

Was interesting to hear Key praising Fitz for that "throw into double coverage" without criticizing Warner. :)

Man, I like Moose, but that would be awsome.

You know, on the Panthers Huddle last night, they broke down that play in New Orleans where Jake supposedly threw it into double coverage to Smitty. It turns out that Smitty actually had seperation when Jake threw that ball, but because he was about to get nailed, he couldn't get enough on the ball and it hung up long enough for the defenders to get there.

They showed it on the game tape, where you can see everything on the field instead of just either the QB or the WR like you see on TV.

I'd take Smitty even if it was playing marbles, tiddlywinks, or knitting cause they guy is just a competitor....plain and simple.

He has the heart, drive and desire to be a winner, and he will always come out on top in my book.

NUFF said. :cheers2:

Smith Demands more Coverage in games and I've never seen Fitz catch a ball sitting down. No one extends like Smith and attacks the ball IMO and as good as Fitz is he still dose not demand the respect Smith dose. I think people just expect Smith now to do what other WRs do with single coverage because he has been doubled for so many seasons now. IMO Moss and Smith are still the best WRs in the game because of how you have to play them but Fitz is a close second and has had a great season this year.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
