Wallace Wright - our new WR

I actually wonder how many folks that post stuff on this board are over the age of 12. Does anyone beside's Zod and Rayzor actually know wtf they are talking about???????

Everyone that has been cut was average at best! Is that so hard to replace? I guess most of you are happy staying status quoa instead of finding a young player that can potentially be better than average.

Special teams the last few years have been horrible to say the least! Any effort to improve that aspect of the game is an improvement. Don't be surprised if we draft a kicker this year late in the draft and then cut Kasay!

Don't lump all of us together, I've said the entire weekend the cuts were just trimming the expensive fat on the team.

There is no need to kiss ass. Some of us here try to have real discussions, you know.

I know it's not a big name, but Wallace is a player. You'll love him. I've followed his career since he left Pine Forest in Fayetteville, and pulled for him. I've always known him through other people and met him a couple times being from Fayetteville.

His girlfriend used to work with me when we were in high school and he'd come in a lot. Real cool guy. He's got to be ecstatic to be coming back home.

You won't be disappointed. I know he's not Antonio Bryant or Kevin Walter, but the guy plays his role. He's a ST ace and does have potential as a WR.

IIRC, he didn't get a scholarship offer from major schools but had good enough grades so he applied to UNC and got in off his academics. He tried out for the football team and made it as a walk-on. Was mostly a ST guy the first year or so and then they put him in at KR and he did some serious work. Showed some playmaking ability, so they gave him a shot on offense his last year and a half or so, and again, he showed out.

Look up an article on it, you'll like what you read.

He sees the odds and beats them. He's a player. Kind of like Kassim Osgood, but not quite as big.

I'm really happy for him and it's a good pick-up for us. Surprised NYJ didn't tender him.

Thanks for the great information!

cuz at least we knew he was decent on special teams, who is this bum we just signed, I've neer even heard of him :banghead:

I don't think you understood. 'This guy' has been move productive on special teams than Hankton was during his time here AND in shorter period of time. So we have a younger, better version of Hankton, who may or may not be able to actually play as a wide receiver - just like Hankton

And you know everything there is to know about the NFL? Just because you haven't heard of a guy doesn't mean he doesn't have the potential to be good.

I wonder how many non-Panthers fans knew anything about Carl Hankton? I'm guessing there weren't many.

Anyway, we don't know for sure that he will be as good as Hankton was here, but at least they realized that our coverage units have been a problem and are doing something about it. I don't think the problem was all on the ST's coach, even though I'm glad they made that move too.

Thanks for the write up. Sounds like a good ST signing. Lord knows we need them.

    • Of course, everyone has film. That is probably fresh in their mind though. Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
