Bears at #1

Shocker

Lets talk about the possibility of the Bears moving on from Justin Fields and selecting another QB (probably Caleb Williams)

There are some very compelling ideas here:

Reset the salary structure with a rookie QB and take Caleb (or someone else) #1

Stick with Fields and trade the #1 pick for a treasure trove of assets

Now…if a team in the top 3 wants a trade up I am doing that immediately.

I don’t really think Caleb is better than these other QBs.  I personally like Daniels at #1.
Also like Maye over Caleb.

So if I can’t get a trade I would draft Daniels and wait on Fields personally.  Until someone gives me a great trade (which will happen) he is a Bear.

The most likely conclusion is they take Williams one

The second most likely is washington gets desperate and gives them a kings ransom to move up one spot, in which case they would take Maye 2 (the media is kidding themselves right now believing it's not williams 1a and maye 1b).

I can't see any scenario Chicago does anything other than those two things

I’d trade the pick for a ton of picks.  Caleb Williams is a mega tool, massive headache, and carries higher odds of flat out busting than a Luck/Trevor/factory robot type.

smart play is to trade him and keep roster building.   Even if you eventually move on from Fields I think that leads to the best outcome for the team.

Agree…I saw a hypothetical trade where Washington moves up 1 pick and it still cost them a first next year along with other picks.

I mean seriously, why even make this topic? It's bad enough we dont have the pick we dont need to be reminded of all the different possibilities the bears have to become a real franchise as we stay dog poo with no picks. Usually bad teams cant stay bad for long bc of the draft but we found a way! cudos

    • He didn't actually make the playoffs. We had several opportunities to clinch on our own and crapped the bed. We had to wait for Atlanta to win to get us in. We had the tie breaker in a poo division that had 3 teams finish 8-9.  If you go back and look at the games we played, we weren't a dominant offensive team under him as an OC. We beat the Jets 13-7 and barely beat the packers after they failed to convert multiple red zone trips. We relied heavily on converting 4th downs. DC was also extremely slow at recognizing trends in game and was really lacking with clock management.  Was there progress this year? Yes. But most of it was on the defensive side of the ball. Our offense was stagnant with a couple of exceptions. Any improvement from Bryce was minimal and he kept insisting on XL over Coker, and even RB distribution instead of going with the hot hand.  He may be building something, but I don't think we've seen enough to know what that is. It could go either direction. If he insists on being OC, then without a noticeable improvement, yes he needs to be on the hot seat like any OC would. The more jobs you take on the more you have to be judged on. I think he would have a longer leash if he hired a true OC and just focused in being HC.
    • zero percent suprised Luke is a nice guy irl, have never heard anything differently from anyone that's met him.  I have heard mixed reports on Smitty I know one guy on here got to know Deangelo Williams and J stew pretty well back in the day when they used to host events and he said they were nice iirc  I can't imagine Jordan gross is a bad hang, he's hilarious
    • Ran across this bit of fun. As seen on https://www.thesportinggent.com/blogs/dispatches/front-porch-musings-field-ethos-journal (a blog for outdoors gear and clothing)
