In my two round mock I ended up having the Panthers take....

I know you said the rules didn't allow trades but I really hope the Panthers would trade down at this point and maybe pick up a 4th or more. All the talent/needs are gone at this point and I think Cam Thomas is a good pick but not someone that could make a difference. I would rather trade back in the second, pick up someone like Jacoby Ford, Lamar Houston, or even a corner like Brandon Ghee and get some more picks. This is gonna be an important draft and as much as I love the BPA approach we really aren't in a situation where that kind of mentality is going to work. This team needs to fill multiple holes including getting some playmakers at WR, adding some depth all over the defense, and shoring up the special teams (do you really think John Kasay will be kicking off in 2010?).

lol at the rams passing on Clausen and Bradford and taking McCoy

Huh?

Clearly the logic is that Suh is the most dominant player in the draft and neither Bradford and Clausen are good enough for that top pick. The guy obviously felt the gap in talent was not 32 picks and thus addressed the QB with the second pick. Loooooads of people are suggesting this.

He did not choose McCoy over the other two, more he went for the best player #1 and then picked bpa at a position of need after that.

This is a qb driven league and the rams have no qb. Sure Suh or McCoy would be bpa there but outside of those two qbs, no one in this draft haqs nfl starter potential. Colt is Kyle Orton at best and there are huge question marks around every other qb. Bradford is also a risky pick but I think Clausen is the most nfl ready qb in the draft and the guy Stl should pick. Stl already has a pretty good amount of money at defensive line and 0 offensive weapons outside SJax. Adding a qb can help them win a lot more games than adding a DT and that franchise needs to start winning games soon or risk losing more money and fans.

I don't want to start any big arguments, but just because we have a lot of guys at DT doesn't mean they're any good. Name me 2 QUALITY starters there and I would agree that we don't need to take a DT. At the very least you should say that there's lots of uncertainty at that position and hence drafting one wouldn't be a bad thing. At this point I'm fine with taking any position that's not a RB. BPA.

I think you guys get too caught up with the whole "there's still depth at WR in the 3rd" or whatever. Our scouts don't necessarily see eye to eye with Mel Kiper and just because they like a guy, it doesn't mean he'll be there next round. Just take the guy you thik will do the most for you. Getting too cute gets you lots of mediocre players in needed positions which end up doing nothing for you anyways.

Back to the actual pick, I would prefer Alualu or Shipley to Thomas, but I have no real beef with the pick.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
