yes, Depth is going to be our problem.  We can get competitive with 22, but 53?

Wholeheartedly agree, been our Achilles heel for years. Hoping that we can get a legit enough 22 out there to be able to focus on depth next off season, you know the right way to rebuild.

I like to see people who know what they have after days 1 and 2.

Zinter is recovering from that injury, but we would not need him right away.  A steal there.

Wiley is a player they have met with,  and he will be there later.

But what I liked is Tommy Eichenberg.  I noticed him last year in a game I was watching with my brother-in-law, an OSU alumni and a chiropractor in Columbus.  He knows the Buckeyes.  I told him, "I like that Eichenberg LB.  He said that they are high on him, but he has done little so far.  in 2023 he had like 120 tackles.  He would be a great backup who can possibly replace Thompson in 2025.

agreed about wiley. he was sitting there, though, and i knew i wanted him and took a shot at him then when i probably could have taken estime. they were pretty close together on the board i was looking at. in fact wiley might been a little later than estime. the problem i had was that there were more RBs i liked than TEs so i figured i'd better grab him while i had the chance.

i REALLY like Sanders and i think he's much more of a sure thing than Wiley. Taking him then would absolutely not be a mistake. we could still get a really good WR after that, like you did with Pearsall.

Aladepo is a DB i like much in the same way i do Kalen King. Just this tough as nails aggressive guy back there making lives miserable for the offense.

And Eichenberg is one of those guys that i keep coming back to. i just think he really fits the mold of panther LB we "grew up" with here. There's a few other LBs i like a lot, but i think he's very underrated. i hope he stays that way so we can grab him later.

what i find myself drawn to, and i really hope Morgan & co. are these guys with a lot of fire and fight in them.

i think where we fugged up the past half dozen years is this analytics poo where we looked for guys with certain measurables and RAS scores thinking we could outsmart everyone and field a team of top notch athletes. just because you're a great athlete, though, doesn't mean you're a tough football guy.

Fitt was an analytics guy. rhule sat on the couch with a bag of cheetos watching moneyball and ted lasso and considered that training for coaching. i think reich was just a nice likeable old guy who tried to make everyone happy but didn't have a clue what he was doing.

now we've got a GM who knows what a real football player is and has the freedom to build with player he knows will make an impact, not guys we take a huge gamble on because of their RAS scores thinking that we might find a way to make use of their talent if we can ever figure it out (Chinn). This we are seeing in action.

Lots of things remain to be seen in Canales, but if Morgan is as right about his pick of HC as he seems to be with his picks of players, i think we might be on to something good.

    • You literally did it right there and didn't even remember it. Sorry long Friday.
    • TMac to finish up Feels good after pads came on. Physicality is a little different, playstyle is a little different. Refs let the players play, so he has to earn his stripes to get calls and just has to be better playing through contact. Focusing on staying confident and listening to coaches. Not much has changed for him, still trying to be his authentic self. Was asked about boxing practice he was seen doing. He's done that since he was a kid because his dad was a boxer and taught his siblings. Was the youngest and got beat up the most, but now he's the fourth of sixth children. Boxing helps with his cardio and being reactive with his hands to the ball + DB. Admits to struggling the first couple of days, hats off to the DB corps for making him better every single day but had his best day on Wednesday. Even the best get got. Just have to remain confident in preparation and abilities. Confidence will take you only so far, and that's where his resilience plays a factor. XL is authentic and great to have in the room. Can rely on him to be the same guy every day. They make each other better. Everybody feeds off of each other and when one person wins they all win. Happy to be a part of the receiver room. Was asked about how he was laughing harder than everybody else at XL getting his feet in the water off the back of the boat: "Man he needs to be stopped bro... He can't be serious but he was serious. It's all good." Playing against the increased amount of press he's facing in practice is helping him get more physical. His job is to catch the ball, so if it touches his hand he has to come down with it. Only catches with one hand if he needs to, but that gives the QB a bigger catch radius. Had a pregame routine where he did a 360 one-handed catch, but doesn't do it anymore. Working on being a pro: Getting into the facility early and getting treatment, eating better, etc. Just wants to win re: rookie goals. Anything he can do to help the team win. "I'm looking for to the season man and keep pounding."
    • DJ Wonnum up next Felt the defense came out ready to work at all levels and took over practice. New standard around here. Young guys have to know they're coming in to work. Last year was not the standard. Nic and Princely are fun. Different personalities but loves what they bring to the room. Sky is the limit for them. Nic sits next to Wonnum, Princeley sits next to Jones II. Allows them to be better mentors. Feels great and ready to go Incoom's athleticism allows him to bend and get low even to compensate for not being the biggest guy. Can set the edge. EDGE guys are helped when the ILBs can get home because it allows them to be a little more free while still in scheme. DB being back means his dominance is back. Can set the edge from the 3 or wherever he's at to make the runs bounce to the EDGE guys. Winning mentality and standard this year. Championship level from practice to how you live off of the field. Accept greatness and excellence with guys wanting to come to work every day. Not settling for anything less. Been in guys' shoes that are fighting for roster spots so he knows how to address them. Remembers not knowing what's next, especially as a rookie. Have a clear mind and ask the older guys a lot of questions. Has a good relationship already with Pat Jones II due to knowing each other and talking football all of the time. Can make hand gestures and know immediately what to adjust. Taking care of his body and excited to start the season. Getting it acclimated to football again by being able to tackle and bring players to the ground. Didn't know they were playing live tomorrow. Don't tell me it'll be "thud." Browns next week will allow them to hit somebody else and get a feel of what a different team is doing. Also allows the team to see where they're at on offense and defense. Ready to play football. Not worried about the QB matchup for Cleveland, going to play hard regardless of who is back there.
