Fox (network) says NO to a senior citizen Super Bowl halftime show

One of the biggest criticisms in the wake of Super Bowl XLIV focused on the halftime show, which featured a couple of guys whom we vaguely recall openly choosing death before old age.

Apparently, not every birthday wish comes true.

So will the trend toward rockers-who-need-walkers continue, or will the event again skew a bit younger?

The next Super Bowl will be televised by FOX, and the guy who runs the show there recently was asked whether the halftime show will feature performers under the age of 60.

"Oh, please, God, yes," FOX Sports Chief Executive David Hill told Joe Flint of the Los Angeles Times. "If I saw [Who guitarist] Pete Townshend's belly again I was going to throw up. In his younger days it might have been rippling muscle, but now it's like mine -- rippling fat. From the conversations I've had with the NFL, we won't need oxygen."

Generally, it's good news. Then again, there are plenty of younger acts that, well, suck.

We're officially pulling for Green Day, which would fit nicely with the perceived marijuana epidemic among incoming rookies.

Can we also say NO to teen bobbers and voice synthesizers?

If they get Kesha/Lady Gaga/Beyonce/etc I'm going to throw up.

I would LOVE to see a Muse halftime show. If they insist on going rap/hip hop then at least get someone like Cudi/Lupe Fiasco/etc, instead of insert random autotune artist

If they go younger and hipper I think they should have joint performances....

If you want hip-hop you have to choose someone like Jay-Z, He has recognition and will be responsible enough to have a performance that won't make the NFL & Fox nervous.

Then you have a band like Daughtry, or Nickelback. Finally you could go with some female pop or R&B artist. There is a lot of them that could fit the role

I mean, I see what you're saying. They have to be cautious after the Janet Jackson thing, but PLEASE NO at any current "pop" stars like Gaga or Kesha. I flat out won't watch the halftime show if that happens. I would be fine with Jay-Z though.

    • Honestly, I have only one pair of white shoes (only because they were new and like $4 from the Goodwill) other than my easily-cleaned Crocs. A man's got to think ahead.
    • Down to Carolina and Washington for Ehlers.
    • Who are your top three breakout candidates for next season?    My three: Jatavion Sanders- Simply put he is the best receiving TE we have had since Olsen. We all saw his potential over that three game stretch prior to his neck injury where he showed a real connection with Bryce. Good route runner with glue for hands, limited blocking upside but he gives solid effort. With Tremble already being hurt I don’t see a reason why he already isn’t our starter and clear future at TE. Trevin Wallace- For a developmental LB forced into a starting role last year he  exceeded expectations. LB is one of the hardest positions to adjust to from college, and for a prospect who was widely regarded as very raw, surprisingly he was solid in coverage and only had an 11.9% missed tackle rate. He was overly aggressive consistently, and needs to work on his play recognition. But he is set up to be our best LB next season, and likely starter for years ahead. Even barring reaching his upside, his floor was clearly a lot higher than draft pundits assumed(Morgan can scout LBS). Cade Mayes- I am hopeful Cade wins the starting job at C this season. He may have been our most improved player last season, he looked like an above average starting C after he took over for an injured Corbett. He allowed 0 sacks on 327 pass block snaps. Corbett can not stay healthy, and at this stage in his career Mayes is objectively the better player. Mayes is only 26 and gives us the potential of stability at C, something we have never had since Ryan Kalil retired. Corbett slots in as a great backup C/Guard, and Cade continues to develop and gain more chemistry with Bryce and our stud duo of Hunt/Lewis.
