No Pesce for remainder of 1st round. TDA draws in...I'm always worried about defensive injuries in the playoffs for the Canes. Our defensive style doesn't bode well for substitutes.

Hopefully Tony plays well! LETS GO CANES.

Pesce was out most of game 2.... love pesce but if we had to lose someone he's probably the one you'd pick.

This just moves Orlov/Chatfield up to pair two....

TDA isn't close to Pesce defensively but he does add even more offense.

I don't disagree with this, however...in our man defensive philosophy people can get lost in translation and grade A's appear. It helps to have a lot of game time to get into the flow of it all.

I think 2010 was the last year a primarily man defense won the cup...everyone has to be perfect. Hopefully, he comes in and doesn't miss a beat!!

Early in the year when Pesce was out he played surprisingly well defensively...

As pissed as I was in game 82 (I bet hard on the canes before RBA announced he was sitting starters) I wouldn't hold game 82 against him the game didn't matter.... I suspect he comes in and plays well/very hard because he wants to play in the playoffs (who doesn't) and it's not like he doesn't have experience in our system he played like 90 games two seasons ago. He's also a boost to the PP.

He’s not slotting in on the PP. That’s a liability.

This. He has been grading out as our worst defenseman on the ice in most games this season.

That just means our forwards have to be more aware that TDA is on the ice and we can't afford to be leaving him back defending 2 on 1s

I don't expect him to be perfect but I suspect he will be putting in the effort defensively to not be a complete liability and stay in the lineup over Marrow....

He adds more offense so hopefully it will offset any defensive lapses.... he's fantastic at walking the line and postponing himself to keep pucks in... (something burns has been making me go wtf why are you so out of postion when guys are slinging it to the point)

Actually, Pesce is not usually our worst defenseman on grade on average and usually is middle of the pack to high on stat card solo.

Something people need to remember is for defensive lines in the NHL over 800 minutes. We take 1, 5 and 9 x goal against per 60. 1, 10, 20 x goal against(skjei/pesce is the 10. 2, 3, 11, x goal.

Individually, Pesce is second on the team in blocks and per 60 it’s a country mile. Has a 5.8 x goal despite having little offense. TDA is a 1.8. Pesce also has our least amount of defensive zone giveaways with 14. To put that in perspective he has 18 give away in 1400 minutes, Orlov has 17 defensive zone giveaways in the same amount of time(36 total).

TDA has 14 giveaways with 8 defensive zone giveaways in 440 minutes.

TDA and Pesce are not the same. Y’all give Pesce far too little credit to how well he plays in rods system.

    • TAMU had such a weird draft. Usually you'd be bragging your ass off about three DL drafted in the top two rounds except that the narrative around all three was about how badly they were misused by TAMU. LOL
    • Many Panthers fans are already excited about second-round selection Nic Scourton for a variety of reasons including but not limited to: the Panthers needed to recharge the position group, Scourton had a late first-round grade according to many (including the Panthers), and he fit this season's modus operandi of stopping the run now and forever. However, Scourton was seen early on as one of the top-3 EDGE guys in this class but fell due to not having quite the season at Texas A&M as he did prior at Purdue (his sophomore season). It's been revealed since then a few different things that speak to that dip in production... Texas A&M, for one, requires each player on their line to be able to hold two gaps. This also explains why we saw low production across the board from the other two TA&M prospects but were still being heavily touted. Scourton was also said to have bulked up to 280lbs in order to fulfill this role and noticeably suffered from it. He's expected to play this season with Carolina at 255 - 260 which is very different from most situations. In most situations, teams are wanting players to gain 15 - 30. Since Scourton is going to be playing at his Purdue weight, I thought it would make sense to dive more into that tape. Y'all... we might have gotten something special... Let's take a quick peek at the stats before we start drooling over some highlights. First, a summary of the last two seasons for Scourton: Second, the game splits: The first thing that pops up for me is how Scourton's sack numbers were cut in half his senior year. We've already pointed out issues with scheme that impacted the TA&M linemen from racking up numbers, but seeing the game splits it's clear that Scourton didn't exactly feast on inferior competition while at Purdue. He had two two-sack games (vs. Michigan (2023 - 2024 champs), Indiana) and a 10-tackle game (vs. Nebraska). I also see the 2024 games where he went up against two top-10 tackles (Will Campbell from LSU + Armand Membou from Missouri) that I watched leading up to the draft.  For those who just want a summary: Scourton looked elite at Purdue and is going to be rotating in often during his rookie campaign. I originally had him penciled in as the second-string, strong-side edge defender behind Clowney but I wouldn't be surprised to see the team have him and Pat Jones II moving around when they rotate in in order to find where Nic looks best. Here's a highlight reel to replace that Cialias you lost in your recliner tonight:   For those that want a little more: Below I'll be linking the linking the five games I've mentioned above. If you plan to watch all of them, I highly recommend going in the order listed as that will allow you to see him vs. Campbell and then Membou while dealing with the aforementioned things he dealt with at Texas A&M before seeing him look unstoppable in 2023 when he was allowed to play both at a comfortable weight and in a scheme that didn't require him two cover two gaps nearly every play. vs. Will Campbell (2024) vs. Armand Membou (2024) vs. Nebraska (2023) vs. Michigan (2023)   vs. Indiana (2023)
    • Yea, i honestly think he had almost as much say as Dan.  One of the main reasons I think that is Eager has said before he was ever with the Panthers, that you trade away picks for a qb and for any other position you do pick swaps, and that's exactly what we did.
