Will Golden Tate be available to carolina in the second mid round pick, if not do they still go wr, and who, i see mardy Gilliard, he aint a bad choice either but i love tate Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Jerry, I do think Tate will be available there, as will Gilyard. I like Tate's versatility -- he'll be the first of those two selected. If Tate is not there, Gilyard would be an okay pick for them.

And the Panthers have been looking at receivers all spring, so it would be a surpriser if they didn't take a WR in the second round.

Pretty interesting. I know everybody would go nuts around here if Tate was still there at 48

Though WR is one of our biggest needs, rookie WRs rarely make an impact. Which is why the Panthers never took one in the first/second round, instead looking for a player who could make an impact their rookie year.

If they take a WR with their 1st pick and try to make him a starter this year, it will show total desperation on Hurney & Fox's part.

Dwayne jarrett doesn't count?

True Skew, but that's why we need a guy like Gilyard who can start on special teams and develop as a WR. Some guy named Smith once did that and I hear he's not too bad.

Which is why Hurney and Fox are morons for not getting a WR in FA

what positions do rookies normally make immediate impacts at?

Offensive Tackle? Got our starters there already

Running Back?do i even need to say anything?

CB? we've got our starters there

I cant really think of any other position than linebacker but i'm more comfortable with connor/anderson starting than I am with our current crop of w.r's...even if Jarrett did emerge as the # 2, you really need at least 3 on the roster

i think gilyard would make an impact right away actually. look at what desean jackson and percy harvin did their rookie seasons... he's kind of the same mold of player, or maybe even brandon lafell (who reminds me of a hybrid between donald driver & reggie wayne). but i think gilyard would make a bigger impact out of the slot than lafell would on the outside. i say keep jarrett on the outside, smith as your #1, draft gilyard for the slot, and see what happens. although, i'm still rooting for charly martin.

The rookie will be mixed in and be expected to do a lot. I see no reason why a rookie can not come in here and contribute. On the other hand no rookie is going to take attention off Smitty, although this has always been the case, now that there is someone to get him the ball it's a tough call. This year is about keeping a core and giving young guys chances, so far everything is going according to plan.

The Panther's might still have some surprises on draft day and beyond.
