I almost cried when I saw how many escaped the fire, stupid firemen getting to the house so quick.

They look evil, put them down.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Rescuers had their hands full trying to save more than a dozen cats and put out a house fire at the same time.

The fire broke out on Carmel Lakes drive around 10:30 a.m.

Fire fighters say it took over an hour to put the fire out.

The home owner tells NewsChannel 36 she had at least 20 cats living in the house which she said she was watching for a friend.

She also said 4 or 5 of the cats died from injuries.

Emergency responders had to give 8 of the cats oxygen.

Fire investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen from food left on the stove.

The home owner says she is staying with family for the night.

Investigators are stil trying to determine how much damage was done to the house.
