i don't think you want your son's role model to be anyone who hoards millions of dollars while people are starving or dying of preventable diseases here and around the world. professional sports really aren't the best place to find role models. that's what religion is for. sports is just for entertainment.

Who is Matt Moore from a character standpoint? I don't live in Charlotte and have only seen one interview with Moore. Is he a standup guy that my six year old son can look up to and proudly wear his jersey the way he wore #17? Is Moore a family guy? Is he involved in the community? How does he treat the fans?

I'm not saying he is of high character or that he is not. I really don't know, but would like to hear what the general opinion is of him in the Charlotte area.

he's a young guy who keeps out of trouble. he's married but i don't think he has any kids yet. he's a pretty nice guy from what i have seen but so far isn't the outgoing person that jake is. that will probably change. he just seems like a bit of an introvert to me. not really a bad thing.

My local pastor does not have a jersey available online yet. Therefore my son tends to wear Panther attire. I would rather purchase a jersey of a player with high character, that uses their fame to do good things in the community versus a player who kills dogs for sport or assaults women, does drugs etc...

I don't know a lot about Moore and was just asking what the people in the Charlotte area thought and had observed.

Thanks, that's good to hear.

:iagree:

You will only find good people in the church these days. Since sports are just for entertainment, I think we should just fill the league with rapists and murderers.

i don't think folks can really know about another person. no one knows a person is a dog killer or rapist until after they do it and people find out about it. you'd have to ask matt moore that question, and he'll probably either not return your letter or give you a cryptic answer. the best you can do is let your son wear whatever jersey he wants, and if the person turns out to be something you disapprove of, you'll just have to trust your pastor and yourself did a good job and your son also disapproves of the person. that's my advice.

first of all, i never said anything about church before he mentioned church. i just said religion in general. second of all, poor moral character does typically translate to poor play on the field because they're distracted.

i do think the only perfect people are some in religious tradition, and that's where role models should come from. if you want to get sarcastic with me for my belief, that's fine i guess.

And yet it is now evident you are talking about church. Weird.

For the record, I have no problem with your religious beliefs. Like Killer Kat, I just don't see why you'd tell someone that children shouldn't look to professional sports for role models, but to religion.

he said he went to church, that's how the conversation turned to church. for all you know i could be buddhist. i gave my reason why people shouldn't look to sports for role models. i don't believe there are any perfect people except certain religious figures in books or oral traditions passed down from generations. perfect people don't exist down the street, or down the interstate into charlotte, so why try to model yourself after them? i'm not having a religious conversation on a sports forum. i'm done regardless of if people want to continue it.

As far as I know, Fox has never said anything negative about Moore's personality or work ethic, so I don't know where that notion came from in the first place. In fact, he pretty much gave Matt Moore his full endorsement as the Panthers starting QB during that fair well to Jake Delhomme PC. Actions speak louder than words though, and the actions by the Panthers FO should tell you that they are very confident in Moore's ability to lead this team. If they weren't confident in Moore, they would be scrambling to find a veteran as insurance, but that's obviously not happening.
