Run the ball heavy with the RBs and new OL and use Dalton to hit them deep on the play action. Canales was very PA heavy in TB last year.

I think people will be surprised how differently defenses will play us when they have to account for the deep ball. Every team has been using the same defensive game plan against BY for a year now and he just wasn't making them pay for it. Even Plummer had us looking like a completely different offensive system in the 2nd half of the last preseason game with the actual deep shots. Dalton can actually mentor a guy like Plummer, he really didn't have anything to offer Bryce since they have totally different games.

Apparently Pierce was caught off guard learning that Dalton will start.

For context: both the Delhomme and Newton Panthers were known for a huge focus on the run game, but a heavily vertical passing plan. I don't know if this was a top-down mandate or what. But enough of this west coast crap. Time to cut it loose. No more underneath routes on 3rd and 15, no more bubble screens, no more. Throw it deep. We've got a good running back corps; throwing deep will push defenders back, allowing a better run game. It's passing to set up the run. Let's get some excitement back in the game. I just want to see regular passes of more than 10 yards that aren't intercepted.

I know this idea to long for the hard-nosed AC/EP hybrid approach is appealing as we currently sit in the gutter, but you can get what you're wanting in zone heavy WC offenses.  The Saints right now are dialed in on all cylinders with a zone-heavy Shanahan scheme with Kubiak's son.    

I just don't think we've had the right personnel + scheme + coaching aligning here in quite some time to make any sort of offense work.  

It's all about the marriage of parts.  Right now, the big step is seeing how it works with a QB like Dalton.  And then understanding how the parts come together around a more known commodity at QB.
