If Panthers Take a WR.. FORGET TATE!

I am a bit surprised by all these people wanting Tate.. He is NOT Steve Smith. Steve Smith is very special and it will be hard to predict the "next Smith" Smith is quick but not the fastest, but he doesn't have your typical measurements of a NFL WR... Smith is grit, heart and determination... It's why he is so great.. It absolutely impossible to predict the next Smith.. Horrible comparsion...

IF THE CAROLINA PANTHERS TAKE A WIDE OUT, THERE IS NO BETTER FIT THAN BRANDON LAFELL FROM LSU.

Going into last season, this guy was projected to be a TOP 5 PICK!!

He Is EVERYTHING we need in a WR. He is MOOSE JR! Actually an inch taller! He is 6"3 with long arms and massive hands. He is THE best blocking WR in the draft. He can go across the middle he can fill that roll perfectly.

Panthers just cant get it right when it comes to drafting WR... This guy is right. We all know Panthers need to be able to run the ball, to do that we need guys on the outside that can block... This is so logical... I hate falling in love with a player in the draft because the odds of your team getting that one player is so small..

Panthers, please, give me Brandon Lafell... It will make us better...

Did you ever sit down and thing of why he dropped to the third round?

No.

Unforunately, Carolina's decision makers probably feel the same way.. Since 2002 they have drafted these WRs:

Walter Young

Keary Colbert

Drew Carter

Dwayne Jarrett

Ryne Robinson

0-5 with WRs.. I would be somewhat surprised if they draft a in the 2nd given the track record.. But Lafell is a PERFECT fit for us...

I'd love to have Tate because honestly I see him as AT LEAST a Steve Smith (NYG) type receiver. At the best I see him as becoming like Steve Smith. The thing is that he has very very good hands and he has elite speed and change of direction. The guy is going to be special with the ball in his hands...

If we pass on him for a different receiver then we are stupid. He is going to be DAMN good.

No QB.. LSU QB position was a diaster after Perriloux... Lafell also hurt his knee in the last Bowl game..

This guy is full of NFL Potential.. You can disagree if you like that Tate is more suited for the Panthers (which I STRONGLY disagree with) but the is NO denying this guy has everything it takes to be a NFL WR

lack of work effort lack of speed

a.k.a Dwayne Jarret.

For those that don't know much about Lafell.. This isn't mine it's pulled from Scouts... I've watched him play in College, no not an LSU fan, just I love how well he blocks and plays the WR position. Reminded me of a more atheltic Moose instantly....

Analysis

Release: Good quickness off the snap. Good hand strength to slap away the opponent's attempt at the jam. Good lateral quickness to jab step and gain a free release. Accelerates smoothly to challenge deep despite only marginal top-end speed.

Hands: Good hands for the reception. Can ****** the ball out of the air outside of his frame. Will attempt to make a move before securing the ball at times, resulting in some drops due to a loss of concentration. Typically secures the ball quickly and looks to gain additional yardage. Can track the ball over either shoulder. "Boxes out" the cornerback effectively to make the contested grab.

Route running: Enough top-end speed to challenge deep, and a good route-runner with the body control to sink his hips and generate burst out of his breaks to gain separation. Very effective post and slant route-runner.

After the catch: Best attribute might be his overall physicality for the position. Good vision and burst to gain yardage after the catch, though he has shown a tendency to lose his balance as he tries to make cuts at full-speed. Courageous going over the middle and fights for every ball thrown his way. Takes a hit and hangs on to the ball.

Blocking: Physical downfield blocker. Seems to take pride in his ability to keep his assignment from making the tackle. Looks to escort his teammate downfield if he breaks into the open.

Intangibles: Prototypical build for an NFL receiver. Long-armed, muscled up frame. Appears capable of handling the jump in size and physicality of the NFL immediately, but needs to prove that 2008 was no fluke, as his production jumped significantly from 2007.

NFL Comparison: Anquan Boldin, Cardinals

lafell would be great, but i'd be happy with several other receivers too. this draft is just too deep.

    • And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth
    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
