What's your dream scenerio of tonight?

This.

If all the rumors are true, and the franchise is really prepping for a 2011 lockout, then bargaining away our future picks before the next CBA is in effect is a BAD thing.

not if the 2011 draft class is going to be crap because very few want to enter it and want to wait to be drafted in a year that they actually get paid.

picks in 2010 > picks in 2011

if a 2011 1st pick can net us a 2nd and a third or early 4th, i'm all for it.

A lot of this discussion depends on unknowns, for example how ready our 2009 draftees are this year- the ones that didn't play much. I remember thinking last year that I thought Carolina had one of the BEST DRAFTS in the league, certainly the best I could recall in memory of Panther's draft history.

So if we assume that some of the mid rounders we chose are ready to start in 2010, then I think we're looking just at what we lost this year, and replacing that.

My dream scenario would be trading down in round two to pick up another 3rd round pick. Then our picks would go like this:

2) Defensive Tackle: Linval Joseph

3) Wide Receiver: Arrelious Benn

3) Cornerback: Brandon Ghee

I like Colt McCoy, and the kid from Notre Dame, but I am not a fan of Carolina picking up a rookie Quarterback this year. Effectively, we already have 2 rookies. It isn't that I think every rookie must sit behind some veteran in order to grow into the position, that is nothing but a lame cliche, repeated ad nauseum on TV. I just don't think Carolina has an offensive mastermind that is going to design plays around a rookie that boggles the minds of opposing defenses, although I do believe such coaches exist elsewhere in the league... In my mind, the right thing for us to do at the QB position is to sign Marc Bulger to an agreeable end of career contract.

Signing a defensive tackle is a no brainer, we have the need, the draft is dripping with them, and we don't have any depth at the position to back up the backups/rookies we're promoting. Consider too, that this position is almost always out for a few games each season.

Because this draft is not that strong at Cornerback, I think we have to move early. Signing a cornerback also improves the franchise's bargaining power with Richard Marshall.

After the 4th, its best player available...period.

Trade up for Golden Tate...maybe with the Vikings at the #34 spot IF the rams trade #33 to Clevelnad or KC so they can get Clausen or McCoy. if the rams go into the draft with #33, trade with them. this years 2nd, and next years 3rd. If no trade up happens, trade down for an extra 3rd. Take BPA between DT, DE, and WR with the 2nd and 2 3rd rd picks. maybe like this...

2-Brian Price/Mardy Gilyard/Carlos Dunlap/Arrelious Benn

3-Eric Decker/Greg Hardy/Taylor Price/D'Anthony Smith

3-Greg Hardy/Eric Decker/D'Anthony Smith/Taylor Price

I disagree with this sentiment...

The year Jake Delhomme had his surgery, Moore was a rookie. He didn't really do much in the handful of games he played in, but did enough to keep us in a couple games. He was meh.

But last year, he proved Delhomme was incompetent. He not only that, but he proved he can win games. We faced a hungry Giants and concerned Vikings, and beat them with him under center.

That sort of elevates him past rookie status imho. In fact, the Front Office would agree it seems, as they've released Delhomme, and I believe, named Moore the starter.

I think he deserves a little more respect than to be called a "rookie". That's a bit off target of where he's at right now.

trade down a few slots (five - eight) in the second round and pick up an additional fourth rounder.

if there's a great fit, i wouldn't mind packaging our sixth and seventh (non compensatory) to move into the late fifth round, or package next year mid round and this year's sixth to pick up an additional fourth rounder this year. We'd still have our two 6th round and one 7th round compensatory.

Ergo, trade down a bit to get an additional third, then trade up later to get an additional fourth or fifth. Position ourselves to get more picks in the 2nd - 5th.

Why does everyone want to trade down? Keep what we have. Take Golden Tate or Mardy Gilyard with our 2nd and take the BDTA with our 3rd. Past that, fill in spots of need with BPA.

If you can still get the player you want a few slots lower (like Gilyard perhaps) then obviously you should trade down and grab another pick if possible. i'm not saying i want us to trade down no matter what the situation, but if it's appropriate then i'd like to see that happen - my ideal scenario (which the op asked for) is that this is what falls in our lap.

Marty gilyard isn't a second round pick...that would be a big reason. Show me a mock draft besides Walterfootball.com that has him that high? Why does nobody but me see this. Let's all say this together...Marty gilyard is a third round talent at best. Good...now hopefully Marty hurney understands this too.

Walter Cherepinsky...the only reason his site gets so many hits is because he's the only fool willing to do a two round mock so early. He's created a great site but I don't trust anyone that is just a few years removed from high school as an evaluator of talent. I give him props for trying and he's succeeded in getting hits, I just don't give his opinion any more weight than my own.
