So did we have new scouts for QB's and WR's?

Because if not. Look at the Fox years

QB's drafted- Randy Fasani

Stefan Leflors

Games started- 0. 2 QB's in 8 years. Also ZERO td's.

WR- Walter Young

Keary Colbert

Drew Carter

Dewayne Jarrett

Let the above names sink in. Some factoids.

Walter Young drafted in 2003. Gets his first NFL CATCH. 3 YEARS later.

Colbert and Carter the most *cough* productive of this crew. Colbert 4 YEARS, 8 TOTAL td's. 2 td's per YEAR.

Carter-8 td's in 4 years as well.

Only Jarrett remains in the NFL from this list.

Now if you want to talk LB's or RB's they are solid.

If the Panther's have the SAME QB and WR's scouts that picked that trash heap above, sorry but I need to see a TON of results.

I think there was definitely a different grading process this year with the WR's. We didn't pick theguy average speed with polish and great intangibles, just because that hasn't really worked for us before (Colbert especially). I'm fine with what they did this year and that's to take a guy with a little more edge and competitiveness. These guys definitely sound cockier than the guys whoo have come before them, but that self-confidence may be a good thing.

New scouts? idk

New coaches? Well outside of cantwell (who the team likes) Clausen and Pike are the only players we've drafted at QB since Scherer arrived.

These WRs are the first we've drafted with Colbert as our WR coach.

I think these guys are as important as anyone for the development of our young guys.

My sentiments exactly.

This is the first year we've taken a quarterback high since Kerry Collins. Clausen isn't expected to be a project, but Pike is. So lump Pike in with Fasani and LeFors, and expect different things from Clausen.

As far as receivers go, LaFell is the third receiver taken by the current regime in the first three rounds. Jarrett's a bust, but even when he was drafted it was said that he needed time to develop. He just didn't.

Colbert was good as a rookie and inexplicably got worse as his career progressed. When he lined up across from Moose he was better than expected, and when he had Smitty on the other side he tanked.

LaFell is a different type of receiver than both Jarrett and Colbert, and I think he'll stick around, if for nothing else because of his blocking ability. He complements Smith well and should be able to contribute immediately. It's not about scouting, it's about drafting the right fit, and this year we did.

I'm pretty happy with what we have. It's a good draft for Carolina.

should we expect clausen to call LaFell the N word and become an alcoholic then?

    • They are the least of Your worries, people on the team want to win.  You have to allow for a winning culture to have an opportunity, if you are the person responsible for creating it.
    • Do you honestly believe this is a team that will even be in contention for a playoff spot this year? To me, if you're not at minimum a genuine contender to make the playoffs, every win you get is a meaningless win in the end.  This is the NFL, it's not peewee league where you just want to win a few games and have fun, you want to get into the playoffs and have a shot at making a SB run. We haven't had a winning season in how many years?   Does "enjoying" a small handful of wins every year really make for an enjoyable season for you? I said it months ago and I'll say it forever, I don't care about winning or losing this year, as we don't have a playoff caliber roster yet and I'm a realist about where we are as a franchise.  I'd enjoy watching the games so much more if the team and Bryce in particular were just showing marked improvement, even if it came in losses.   Because THAT would give me hope for the future of the franchise and the direction we're going. Bryce was complete garbage in Week 1, in Week 2 he was terrible until the Cardinals went into super soft prevent defense and then collapsed gain when the game was in reach, and he was a serviceable game manager today, but didn't make any throws that any college QB couldn't make. This game was a perfect chance to let Bryce go out there and play loose because of the lead, just let him be himself and see if it sparks his college self.  But instead, we went unbelievably conservative with the play calling to help ensure the win, when actual wins and losses are the least of our worries this year, it's figuring out what Bryce can be (fans may be decided, but the team obviously has not yet). I don't want to make the playoffs every few years, I want to contend for SBs. I just don't get anything out of 6-11 type of seasons anymore, they're way more frustrating on the whole to be able to actually enjoy the few wins just because our shitty team got a win for a change.
