One huge problem w/ the QB situation

CRA

There is no one on this roster to teach Clausen how to be an NFL QB. How to put the work in, how to be a leader, and how to earn the respect of the lockerroom. Matt Moore still needed that veteran type player on this team to help him grow if he was going to be that guy.....Clausen is way behind the 8 ball in regards to those things.....

the roster of QBs we have put together almost ensures Carolina won't be bring in that type player this season.

That's the coaches job.

Very few coaches can do that, Fox can't. Fox is a defensive guy and never played QB in the NFL. That isn't how Jake learned to a be a leader and an NFL QB. Character, leadership, responsbility....every aspect of the position that doesn't have to do w/ physical talent is the weakness of Clausen....if you are banking of Fox to show this kid how to act and gain control of an NFL team.....that is a lost cause.

For what it's worth, the pundits on the NFL Live just this week were talking about what a great QB coach Rip Scherer is! But, I wish a way could have been found to keep Jake as a backup, for this very reason. Nothing like a long time starter who had his share of success to teach and mentor the younger guys. Heck, we're paying Jake 12 to 13 million as it is this year, we should have kept him on the roster in hopes of getting something back for that. Him and Moore have been teammates for 3 years, and with a high profile rookie coming in, Jake, being the good guy and team player he's always been, would no doubt have been a good influence on them. Of course, we'll never know now!

No disrespect, but you could not be more fuging clueless about the Jake situation.

Keeping him on the team would have been a HUGE mistake. Not because of ability, but because of what it would have done in the locker room. Jake was VERY well liked and still had support on this team. Unless Moore performed at an All-Pro level, you would have risked a split in the locker room.

Letting him go was the right decision.

You only know what was written about Clausen. You have no idea whether this kid willb e a leader. His team mates at ND really liked him as a QB. You are basing your opinion on what Mayock and Kiper have written....you do realize that they are wrong more than they are right. Don't you?

What the hell is Bulger gonna do for us? That guy has been beat to death in St. Louis, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's out of football by this time next year.

Not to play! But just to share some QB experience with the team. So that we'd have more than 8 total QB starts on this team. I'm talking about him being 3rd on the depth chart.

Stupid to pay a 3rd string QB that much money....even the Vet minimum would be too much for a 3rd string, washed-up QB.

I'm not understanding why Panthers need a Vet QB to hold Clausens hand !

Several have said he has the talent to do his position.

Most are saying based on what they have read that he has No Leadership skills.

Panthers will have Steve , Deangelo ,and Gross in every huddle and on every snap that Clausen takes.

With those guys out there ,no one is going to step out of place .

And in time Clausen will feel comfortable .

The QB coach can handle the rest

Now if he were starting on a team without that kind of leadership on the field already, then I could see the concern.

No he want walk around throwing his hands up in the air showing his emotions on every play like Jake .

But with the Panthers Offense

All he needs to do is run the ball and throw a few accurate passes to Steve and co.

The on field Leadership is already in place

Exactly.

Top young QB's usualy struggle because they are drafted by shitty teams. Look at the young QB's that were drafted by teams with good OL's, running games, and/or Defenses.....Flacco, Ryan, Sanchez, Rothlesberger (even though he is an idiot). They all played at a high level.

Our offense has a great OL, best RB tandem in the league, Smitty on the outside, severl new weapons in the passing game.....if we had to go to Clausen, he has the supporting cast and running game to succeed. He would NOT need to win games....just not lose them.

Sure, we know....there is plenty of info avaliable...he took a big step his junior year but the kid has always struggled in those aspects. As Jimmy said, his college teammates liked to "hang out" with him....I don't doubt that. You got have blinders on not to realize since high school this kid's head has been pumped w/ a lot of bad stuff......he made progress at ND.....but he is still behind a lot of guys coming out of schoolin certain aspects. That was the main reason he dropped to the freaking 48th pick and would have likely been much further if not for Carolina......THAT has nothing to do w/ Mel Kiper's opinion. It has to do w/ the opinion of all 32 teams in the NFL. The proof is right there....and that is why he fell in the draft....in pure skilll he was probably the #1 QB in the draft. So you are suggesting the entire NFL during the draft was just listening to Mel Kiper's bs?
