Superbowl in NY (actually NJ)

A non trivial number sleep in campgrounds and then there is a large percentage that drive in the day of the race.

Apples & oranges...

And to the OP...

I don't think so. Much as it may pain me to say, NYC is a special enough place that it deserves special consideration. Chicago maybe but not Charlotte.

Chicago?? doubt it

Drive by the track today and tell me how many hotels on wheels you see.

Although I'm currently 8 time zones away and won't have a shot a driving by the track today, I am a Concord native. And I know there's no driving by the track when they all come in.

However, between Charlotte, the Concord Mills area, Gastonia, Rock Hill, etc, the area couldn't handle an influx of what - 60,000 out of towners? I call BS.

(I'm only guessing at the percentage of out of towners who will fill the stadium - I have no basis for this number)

I think we could easily spend a little money to rent some buses for our joke of public transportation.

I believe the super bowl brings in excess of 1M people into an area, most of whom are media and support. No way Charlotte has the transportation, dining, parking and lodging capacities for that large of a sudden in flux. The Jacksonville super bowl still gets bashed by the media because they couldn't handle it.

I stayed in Jacksonville for 4 days for the Superbowl and didn't see a big problem. Sure they had cruise ships parked in the river for hotels but I didn't see the big deal with it. All the events I attended were well done and a lot of fun. Admittedly it was the only Superbowl I have gone to though.

Personally I think the media bashed it because it didn't have the fancy restaurants, clubs, etc like some of the bigger cities do that they are used to blowing their spending accounts on. Besides, it was 90% Eagle fans everywhere so it was probably best that it wasn't in a nicer city.

This isnt about cold weather places getting a Superbowl.. this is about whatever NY wants, it gets

on ESPN they were saying NY needs the money it will bring and the attention to the new stadium

Since when does ANY city in the US not need an extra 500 million from tourist?? And since when did having a new stadium make you a sure thing to host a Superbowl.. Its all hype and lies b/c the media loves to bow down to the great "NY Media Market"

Charlotte will never host a Superbowl

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
