Jerry Richardson q&a

Read the bold sentence. The year we made a big move in FA, we went to the Super Bowl.

There where to big moves in fa. There were a bunch of role players signed.

Davis was a great pickup, but it wasn't even close to being one of the big splashes in that years free agency. We filled needs with affordable fa's.

I guess you are bringing this up to compare it against this off season, where the average fa was at lest 28 or older. We have also been drafting players/building the team for years. It is time to get those players more involved with the team. Let them step up and become the contibuters there were drafted to be.

Forget about him?

I'm not sure if Davis was considered a "big" free agent, since he was easily released by the foreskins. Plus, even if he was considered as a significant free agent, the majority of well-known free agents we've signed in the past resulted to be a disappointment, with the exception of Davis, Wahle (in '05), & Harris (if you'll consider Harris a "well-known" free agent

It's a good interview, as has been said, it really shows he's the guy in charge of this approach.

I appreciate that the Panthers have been doing very well in the draft & with low level FAs, which continue to stock & improve our team. Last year we had a strong team, but Fox's stubborness (& ridiculous lyalty to) Delhomme took away every opportunity for success.

I see Fox 'slowly' learning to play the guy who is playing the best, but it is taking time. I am more & more sold on Richardson keeping both Fox & Hurney. I like Richardson's candor & leadership.

Jerry is a Champeen and a class act. The league is EXTREMELY fortunate to have someone like him helping to call the shots and make decisions. Being a former player, of distinction I might add, I'm pretty sure his actions have the league AND the players best interests mind.

JR is an ok owner but he's definitely not as great as people make him out to be. He has his faults despite what people think. He was definitely the one behind the Chris Harris trade with his bullshit "internal budget". Not only did Fox leak that out but Harris's own agent did as well. Lucky for JR he has Fox and Hurney to take the blame for his decisions by the fans so he can still be percieved as this perfect owner (which he is far from being)

He said were not a big spender, under Marty Hurney. Which suggests we could be, if we had a different GM. We're a big draft day trader, I'll tell you that much. And trading for Armanti Edwards and giving up a 2nd rounder better pay off

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
