Was just reading this and it got me thinking. Who has the better secondary in 2010?

The Saints' duo of Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter allowed one quarterback all last year to record a passer rating of higher than 80.0 when both cornerbacks were in the starting lineup.

It was Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl (88.5 rating), and Porter had the game-winning pick six off of him in the fourth quarter. Greer, quietly, emerged last season as a shutdown corner, and Porter wasn't far off. If the duo stays healthy this year, the Saints' pass defense will be a matchup to avoid.

in past years carolina would've won this hands down, but the saints made the secondary a priority last year and it paid off for them. to me it entirely depends on how the safety position in carolina shakes out, and how effective sharper can be this year in new orleans. these are both questions we won't know the answer to until at least the end of preseason, and likely until 3-4 games into the regular season.

Yup, as others have said the safety play is the big ? for us this year.

Sharper had a great year, so you would have to give him the edge over any of our safeties at the moment, but I would take Gamble and Marshall over anything they have hands down.

And don't give me the, "Well it doesn't matter because they intercepted their opponent before they got in the endzone! Something that Carolina can't do!" because...

And please don't say, "At least the Saints safeties don't give up the big play! Ahem...CAROLINA!" because...

so what? the question isn't who has the best safeties, its who has the best secondary, and until proven otherwise, its the Panthers. the numbers don't lie. poll unnecessary

Well several of the previous posters said it depended on the safety play. So there.

agree with this. Gamble and Marshall make for a better corner tandem, but it will all depend how the safety situation/pass rush pans out. I'm going with the Saints right now, but Carolina has the potential to be good. Potential doesn't always work out on the field, though.

Pro bowl is a popularity contest and nothing more. Vince Young and Garrard made the pro bowl last year lol.

OK, I don't want to see any more posts saying D-Will is a Pro-Bowler then. :rolleyes:

I should have said it's not always an indicator.

Want an example of how 'legit' the pro bowl is? where was D-Will in 2008 when he broke 1500 yards on less than 300 carries, scored a league high 18 touchdowns, and ZERO fumbles?

      To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .

      The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown.
