Davis...The News...Heard Here 1st...

Recommended Posts

So the world is ending because of something some random poster said? I know the video doesn't look good, and its will be a terrible thing if Davis re-injured his ACL, but don't you think some of you are overreacting just a little bit? I'm withholding judgement until I know what's going on for a fact.

With Diggs, Peppers, Lewis, and Thomas all seeing considerable amount of PT and attention...

Tell me, how have we replaced ANY of those guys...

You are basing your optimism on the potential success of unproven guys to replace proven guys...

I'm basing my realism on the recognition that there are unknown variables, and in the case of unknown variables, it is better to be safe than sorry... (as will be indicated by our lack of depth and talent at LB if Davis is done and we don't bring someone else in)...

I could easily make the argument that Diggs, Lewis and Thomas are worse than the players replacing them, even if they are young and unproven. They were all mediocre at best, and even if the young guys have a few setbacks they should be able to match the production from them. Anderson played very well in relief for Davis last season, Connor is a great talent that hasn't seen the field because of our wealth of talent at Linebacker, J Williams played behind Lance Briggs his entire career but in relief the two games last year he had like 38 tackles or some poo. (which at least means he has huge upside) And our rookie Eric Norwood was apparently one of the better pass rushers in the 2010 draft.

Don't get me wrong, I'm upset that we loss Davis (if we did indeed lose him) but I don't see any reason to be doom and gloom about it, LB is our strongest position on the team.

lol WTF people... I don't see how you can see this situation as "we'll be okay"...

IF Davis is done, you can expect us to sign/trade for another LB before the regular season begins...

Not 100% sure about that.....

Williams...Beason...Anderson...Conner...Norwood....etc.

We will miss TD, but I don't see a trade for a top tier player in the mix.

If Davis is done for the year it sucks, but I don't think it's time to panic. Keep in mind that we've got an underrated linebackers coach in Richard Smith. James Anderson last year at this time was a guy who we thought wouldn't make the team and looked like a completely different player in the preseason and regular season. Landon Johnson even showed a pulse when he was forced into action due to injury. Even Thomas Davis himself was easily having his best season in Smith's first year. I'm confident that we have enough linebackers on the squad that SOMEBODY will be able to step up.

100+ posts and still no confirmation of a tear? Come on guys, we can do better.

IF he's done for the season, that actually really saddens me. Not because of the negative impact it will have on the team, but because TD was turning into one of my favorite guys on the team. You'll be hard-pressed to think of a Panther that has been as good as he's been that's received so little recognition.

One other thing: If he tore his ACL because of pressure to get back into the swing of things faster than he should have, whoever told him that should lose their jobs.

He is currently seeking a second opinion. So you know the first opinion was not a good one. I would seek a second opinion as well if someone told me I just ended my football career. Two ACL tears on the same knee. A comeback from that playing LB would be a story line for a Rocky movie.

One thing to remember is that players usually are never their same for at least a season. We were putting a lot of hope in him returning to the stellar play of last season...which was probably doubtful this year.

This really sucks. But, Williams may be able to play at an equal level this season.
