The Top 50 Quarterbacks in the NFL Today

IMO top 50 lists make no sense particularly when some of the folks mentioned aren't even in the league. Secondly lists make more sense when it is based on some kind of criteria such as TD/Int ratio, winning percentage, playoff record, completion percentage or passer rating. Most of these lists for example use total yards or quantity stats rather than quality stats.

I also like lists that rank them for the past and them talk about why they will be better or worse this year based on a number of factors.

For example, Kevin Kolb who has played almost no games in his career is ranked ahead of Pennington who has accomplished a ton more than Kolb has. However if you were comparing on them on who will start and put up bigger numbers this year then Kolb who is starting for Philly will likely put up bigger numbers than Pennington who will likely be a backup. But if that is the case then Bradford would be much higher because he will put up lots of numbers this year although it is unclear whether they will be good ones or bad.

Again my point is that these rankings have no rationale or statistical relevance since they aren't compared on any particular areas or even predicting who will put up more yards, make the playoffs, or something else. Thus it goes from a football article to a fluff piece in my opinion.

Well it was strictly based off of ability, not stats so your evalutation is a little off there. I in no way included how many yards they will pass for this season in my formula.

First off i want to say i enjoyed your list and it was very though provoking. I do have a few problems with the list though. I don't think you can have Pennington who is probably going to be a third string quarterback for the dolphins that high up the list, also i think Matt Moore as much as i love him is a little high for right now. He has one a lot of games yes, but so has Mark Sanchez who you have ranked below Matt Lienart who couldn't win the starting job. Also i have a problem with Hasselbeck and Kyle Orton being ahead of people like Matt Ryan. Both Hasselbeck and Orton are in serious competition for their jobs, while Matt Ryan has established himself as one of the better young quarterbacks in the league. I can agree with your top 13 but after that i don't agree with a few of the rankings. But i guess it is all based on opinion.
