The way things look now, If AE was a UFA< would he make even the practice squad?

Probably not. He would be one of the many players cut from the team outright. Has shown nothing on special teams and can't seem to hold onto balls against 3rd string DB's.

He would be given another chance next season.

That said, his cost in the draft probably assures him a roster spot, which is a shame. Does he have potential? Maybe. Can we afford another roster spot for a pure project considering we have to use up 2 roster spots because our field goal kicker can't do kickoffs? Nope.

He showed a little promise on his first punt return but it was pretty wide open for him. At WR he was not impressive at all, and what really got me every time he lined up I could tell you if we were running or throwing just based on his body language and how he set up.

Not sure if thats due to his lack of knowledge or interest in the running game or if its just bad coaching by not correcting it by this point in TC.

my take on AE last night...

for a guy who never returned a punt in a game.....to go out there in the rain and do what AE did was impressive. It shows you how quick he is catching on.....now the question is can he continue his rapid pace.

Anyone who thought they were gonna see an athletic version of Mark Jones preseason game 1 was smoking stuff. I imagine by preseason game 3 there will be noticeable difference.

    • One of the Carolina Panthers' newest defenders thinks their pass rush can go from worst to first. ESPN's David Newton recently chatted with outside linebacker Pat Jones II, who signed with the Panthers as a free agent earlier this offseason. Jones comes over from an awfully impressive Minnesota Vikings defense—one that ranked first in takeaways (33), fourth in sacks (49) and second in QB pressure rate (44.4 percent) this past season. And despite a historically-bad campaign by Carolina's defense in 2024, the 26-year-old seems to believe his new unit can be similar—or even better—than his last. "I definitely think we could do something similar, if not better," Jones said, via Newton. "I've seen it before, so I know what it looks like. I look around the building and see we have exactly what it takes to do that." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/24/panthers-pat-jones-vikings-espn/83840667007/?taid=683219b347846900018fa10a&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter     It's the offseason.  Let hope spring eternal. (actually, I think we are much closer than this board thinks)
    • 5 total TDs against the Falcons was pretty good efficiency and he showed that ability to go off scripts and get 2 of those TDs rushing.  How many times did he deliver big time throws against pressure.  I agree we need to see this offense operate at high efficiency which starts with Bryce. When he does I hope the goals posts won’t shift to some other stat like QB sneaks lol
